325d - Any reviews out there / anyone driven it?

Just wondering if anyone has seen a review for the 325d - or perhaps have driven it. I have seen it on the BMW configurator, however can find no other information.

My company E90 320d ED is soon up for replacement and this is a model I may consider. Seems a good 'half way house' between the 320d and 330d.

Cheers,

Nick

325d

Nick, I am also interested in any reviews and could not find any on google. However, are you aware that at the moment this vehicle is only available with a manual transmission?

I would be surprised to see any reviews yet as the car was only announced quite recently for orders.

Personally the 325d doesn't make much sense. Performance wise it's very similar to the 320d, but running costs similar to 330d..

As you say only the Manual is available and don't think there is an x-drive variant either....

same 4 pot diesel as the 125d. 2.0l Twin turbo affair. They introduced this in Feb this year (i think) to the 3 series range so probably no owner reviews yet and i couldn't find any mag reviews either. Reports on the 1 series equivilent are positive but the testers didn't think it was worth the additional expense over the 2.0d..... you could save the money and spend it on additional extras for a 320d but everyone to their own. seems odd that they only offer manual for the time being whereas the 125d can be has in the 8 speeder

As above the same engine is fitted to both the 1 and 5 Series, not a big seller so might be hard to find reviews but I'm sure there are some. Does seem a slightly odd half way house unless financially it makes a lot of sense.

Will you be leasing the car by any chance? I also have a 320d ED that will be replaced in the next 3-4 months and my company's lease partner (Lex) has the 325d variants available.... with tax and contributions it works out the same (if not slightly more expensive) than the equivalent 330d!

I thought it would have been a good halfway house between the 320d and 330d however was very surprised with the figures tbh.

Yes - this will be a lease car - although via the company car scheme.

I understand from the dealer that the 325d will be offered with an automatic transmission - however as suggested, the figures may not stack up (cost, MPG, CO2 etc..).

I will get a quote out of interest.

Just had a look at the specs - identical MPG and CO2 to 330d. Not a massive price difference either (especially as you would have to pay extra for auto transmission when it is available on this model).

You may have more luck finding reviews on the 525d as it has been around for longer. Just make sure it is the later 4 pot engine they are reviewing.

Some consider a 4 cylinder three handles better than a 6 cly due to lighter weight. This would be case for new 325D for those wanting more performance than 320D. A different market than E90 325D which was a refinement gain.

I've just ordered a F31 325d M-Sport a couple of weeks ago. Been told I might have to wait until early July which is a pain but worth the wait I hope.

I chose it over the 320d for the same reason I chose the 120d over the 118d (my old car), it was a little bit more money (£2k list) but gave that extra bit of power (218bhp v 184bhp) and a second quicker 0-60mph. The economy is very similar to the 120d but you pay a little more tax each year.

It was a choice of 320d xdrive v 325d RWD but I wanted adapative suspension and didnt like it that the ride height wouldnt be lowerered.

I'd love to have gone for a 330d but that was a further £2k and had to draw the line somewhere.

I also like the fact it has twin pipes at the back and the front PDC as standard

It does, but only slightly. However, the 330d has got many, many more positive attributes and is just much more fun with its sledgehammer performance from the brilliant 6 pot Diesel coupled with the sublime 8 Speed Sport Auto. IMO, 330d is the best F30 so far. Even though I'm biased, I'm correct.

I had a 123d which was the previous twin turbo 2.0l. It was a little faster than the 120d but fuel consumption was appalling which may have been due to them having closer gear ratios than the 120d? Certainly my E92 330d was about 7mpg better.

What did the trip computer give you as an average on the 123d? i ran my 120d for 8 years and got 42mpg. My previous car was an Audi S3 which gave me 32mpg so I was pretty pleased.

Not sure what i'll get from the 325d but the quoted combined is much better so if I could get Audi S3 performance (it had 210bhp) with 120d MPG. its Win win!!!!

It usually returned around 32mpg according to computer. Somebody else I know had an SE model and I think his was about 34mpg. Both were automatics and mine was an Msport. They may have improved it in the newest models with them being second generations of the engine and I guess with it becoming far more used in most of the BMW range they may have invested more technology into the fuel economy?

It did go well though!

Just looked on fuely... 125d average 39mpg, 320d 36mpg and 330d 35mpg. None for f3x 325d but should be around 35-36 taking this data at face value. The 320d seems low IMO, could be that the guys who post do a heck of a lot of urban driving and/or they drive the cars like they stole it. I'm more in line with the whatcar trufuel mpg predicter as it takes into account a number of driving variables. I'm going to do a fuely calc this time round however.

It is very much on the driver too...

I've had 3 fill ups on Fuelly too.. Started at 35/36 and considering it's a new toy, you can imagine the heavy foot being used a lot...

Driving the car sensibly it increased to about 40. Over 80% of my driving is in town though and only work 10-15 mins from my home. So not bad mpg considering...

I did a 32 mile trip on the A roads yesterday and considering there was a lot of traffic going to the beach, i'm impressed with the 50+mpg i got with the family in the car...

Note the last 2 trips recorded on the iphone

....as suspected heavy right foot and mainly urban driving..looking good the latter trips though! i guess the 325d should give similar values with similar driving as i read somewhere yesterday that some 125d owners can get 50+ on a good run

I really don't get how you guys get 50+ mpg out your cars..

Even on motorways. With Eco pro on I only get 47 or so.

I have done 1200mls mostly town driving and short 10 mins to work but with a few 100 mile trips as well a total av of 42.5mpg

Is it the auto box? Or me!!!

On the other note where did you get that app.. I like

I would imagine the one series will be quicker and more economical based on it being lighter car with same engine, so most likely better performance.
