Stripping clearcoat/refinishing wheels help

I'm just wondering if Bmw alloy wheels are painted and if using a clearcoat stripper will take off the paint. I'm doing this because the clearcoat is peeling off of my rims, probably due to a bad refinishing job by the dealership. On top of that my wheels are curbed when I bought them so I might as well fix it up.

If the wheels are painted and I have to prepare for re painting what color paint will I have to get? I have the luxury line wheels if that helps.

One last question, it should be fine to do this while my wheels are on the car right? Assuming I don't let the paint run.

Thanks

Don't do that. You'll get it all over the brakes, rotors, hubs, and anything else that's in the paint line of fire. You don't need to remove the clear coat, but you do need to sand it, and if you've never done auto painting before it's not as easy as it looks.

Include a pic of your wheels if you can.

The video shows how to refinish a polished aluminum wheel. If it's a painted wheel you don't need to strip the clear coat, and you can get away with a lot less prep work. A youtube search should come up with plenty of videos for painted wheels.
