Best run flats - selection is rubbish!
Hi there,
I have the following on my BMW 3 series (2017): Front: 18 with 225 / 45 R18 tyres Rear:18 with 255 / 40 R18 tyres I wanted Michelin pilot sport ps2 rf (run flat) but these aren't available in the 45 size. This is annoying as I can't seem to find a decent tire out there other than that. What are you guys running? Thanks, Tim |

I have an F32 with run flats, but I also have a f13 with the pirelli cinturo run flats that give a pretty good ride.....slight sacrifice in stickiness, but reasonable ride....unfortunately not available in sizes for f32

You wouldn't want RFT in a 45 aspect ratio. The sidewalls are just too short to give enough cushion to make up for the added stiffness of RFTs. The ride would be too harsh, too noisy, and prone to pothole damage, both tire and rim. Why do you think dealer offered wheel and rim insurance is a big thing now when ten years ago it didn't exist? RFTs on large rims.

Have had no problems or driving issues with the current 19" RFT. I did replace the RFT on my 2011 335IS. They were very harsh over the slightest ripple in the road.
If you are not doing track days & have Adaptive Suspension would not bother with making a switch.

I'm on 19s and also wanted a PS Variant but not available here. Ended up with pzero rft which are a massive improvement in grip over the OEM Bridgestone.

Last two cars 435/440 did not show any need to swap the RTF for get flats. Note both cars had Power kits & the Adaptive Suspension, one with 18" wheels & the 440 with 19"s.

I had PS4S for about 300 miles now they're fantastic tires. No doubt you can get something perform similar at dry but man these tires glue my car to the road in pouring rain and significantly quieter than PSS. PS4S (18" OEM staggered Size) are available in US most likely it's temp backorder for UK:

Had mine for about 100 miles now. Absolutely fantastic tires. For a daily driver they perform 100% as well as the MPSS or 4S.

I have had mine for a week now and this is what you should get. Trust me. You don't have to pay top dollar for awesome tires. Those of us who know...know.

I have 2013 BMW F30 320d M-Sport with M-suspension 225/40/18 and 255/40/18. The car came with Pirelli RFT and switched to Michelin Pilot Sport 4 non-RFT.
The car above 120km/h is terrible. Its like driving an old car. No stability. Very soft. I think BMW has optimized the suspension to work with runflat. Dont make the same mistake as me. You will regret it. I have done 2 times balancing and still nothing. DO EVER PUT MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4 in BMW F30 with M-suspension! I have already started the process to give them back. |
