Hazard Warning Lights After Stopping

Is there any way to disable the feature where hazards automatically flash after heavy braking?

For example: today on a dual carriageway, at 70mph, I stop in one of the parking areas (where the hard shoulder would be if it were a motorway). From 70 to 0 in a reasonable amount of time yet the hazards come on automatically.

They have also came on once when I got cut up on a roundabout and I had I slam on the brakes. Do other cars seriously need to see hazards to see I have stopped? No.

I hate this feature. It just makes you look like you don't know what youre doing up front when they decide to come on... Is there any way??

What should happen is under heavy braking from speed the brake lights will flash ( not sure if that happens on NA Spec vehicles, you may get the double area brake light ) then as it comes to a halt the Hazard Warning Indicators will come on.

Reading the original post, I am taking an inference that while things are basically working as designed, perhaps the Hazards are coming on a bit too readily.

I think they are just unnecessary. I can see their purpose, maybe, on a dark unlit motorway where a car has had to stop abruptly and the hazards are on to alert traffic a few hinder yards behind that there is something unusual happening ahead.

However, they are an overreaction in most circumstances. And as far as guys who have bought the sportier models and drive fairly spirited or maybe on track it must be infuriating.

I have no idea if it's a regional feature so sorry if my initial little rant confused y'all.

i personnally think this is a nice safety feature...

I have never brake so hard as to even trigger this automation!!

I wish i could see this work on my car....

but i have hit the hazard light on my own on many occasion to warn behind me of a sudden major slow down... i wish my car done that for me...

If you read my post you'd see that once was because someone cut across me on a roundabout... And the second time was slowing from 70 -> 0 aiming for a parking bay at the side of the road - about 100yds long... Both require a little more braking than regular driving I'm sure you agree?

Never happened to me (yet; hope I won't need to brake that hard). So never tested and I do not know how one can identify its functionality. (is there an indicator lighting up or something ?) Guess it's working in an emergency situation.

it has turned on to me once but that was on really heavy braking from 100km/hr. Maybe yours is on too sensitive.

Or some drivers have a different opinion on what is hard, or emergency braking.

If it is working as designed, then we must assume the braking was in the 'emergency' range of braking, so good it does work to warn others.

Personally I like the idea my car will give others a warning if I have to brake hard in front of them, anything to help others respond more quickly.

BTW, if they do activate in heavy braking can be deactivated with the hazard button or pressing the accelerator. So no issue if you are pulling away again.

i suggest rather than turning on hazards to warn others that u have just braked hard, they should spray red laser beams into the eyes of drivers behind you to wake them up

HighlandPete I never realised they turn themselves off.

At least as a Scot yourself you must know the stupid little parking bays put on major A roads (that should be motorway with hard shoulders) that you have to try and get into when you've spilled your coffee...

Oh god, I hate this feature so much on my Golf, was so happy I'd finally got rid of it with the F20..

It's not so bad that the hazards flash when braking, but in the Golf they won't turn off until you accelerate again.
Please tell me this isn't the same the F30..

I'm also wondering how guys tracking their cars could cope with this. I figure it'll be pretty confusing for the other people on track too.
