X1 brakes better than 335brakes.

Not to be a complaining carl and a debbie downer or anything, but the brakes on my buddies x1 feel better than the brakes on my 335. they seem to bite sooner and harder bringing the x1 to a more confident stop in what seems to be a shorter distance. I even have the fancy painted msport calipers.

I know it s not an m car on an amg or an rs, but i believe the 3er could profit from some meaner brakes. just my 2 sheckels.

that reminds me of my old e90. It had more bite early on. Issue is at high speeds it is really hard to shed off just a little speed cause the breaks bite harder at first even with the slightest touch. Same at very low speeds when approaching cars stopped at intersection, I found the e90 to bite too hard.

I like the feel of the f30, not too touchy but with a firm press the car will shed off speed in no time, you start worrying if the car behind you would really slow down quickly not to hit you.

do a side by side comparison. it may change your mind.

is it an X1 28i or 35i? if it is a 28i it could feel that way due to a lighter engine.

maybe the 335i just feels SO much faster when your driving it that it seems it takes longer to slow down

I suspect the X1 brakes have greater hydraulic boost than the F30. I was given a new X5 as a loaner recently and its brakes are definitely highly boosted, giving the impression of greater braking power.

It is analogous to Eco Pro. It possesses the same engine power, but the throttle position mapping is so gentle the car feels sluggish.

isn't the X1 based on the e90 platform which had much better brakes than the F30 does?

I always felt my car stops really quick on slow speed but if I'm going on the hwy and i see traffic backed up. sometimes it feels as the car's not gonna stop! i thought it was just me..I even have the M brakes. lolz...but on lower speed, the brakes are awesome....just on higher speed i found the car takes a while to come to a full stop...

the brake boost is amped up on "sport mode" to be more responsive and is more squishy and longer on "comfort mode" so it doesn't feel too sensitive and abrupt for most daily driving situations. I wish it was just one way that felt good. bunk.

F30 brakes have been roundly criticized by professional testers, and also by people coming from other BMW models. The legendary brake feel seems to be missing, and stopping distances in every test are poor compared it its competition, as well as E90. Since the X1 is based on the E90, it could very well be the reason for you feeling the X1 brakes are better.

One of the factors that seems to contribute to the poor stopping distances of the F30 are the low rolling resistance tires - so a tire change may result in some improvement, though it now seems even the Msport brakes are not stopping the car as well as other BMWs

Cos in US the only difference between M-sport & standard is the pad materials.
No such complaints in Europe tho, probably the cars are fitted with Summer tyres as standard & not those GY EfficientGrips on the press cars in US.

Yes, I agree with you - its probably mostly those 'low resistance' tires, which have no business on a 3er.

How bout really hard late braking? Whats the weight difference on the cars? Maybe its just a subjective feel?

In that case, you wanna look further ahead, anticipate and brake earlier then lol

Coming from an X1, I have to concur that the F30's brakes don't feel as good or as confidence inspiring.

Whether it is the brakes themselves or the low rolling resistance tyres or lower drivetrain loss I don't know.
