No one gives a hoot about residuals......except private owners paying cash......a very small minority.

I'd rather have the discount up front then hope for a decent residual down the line tbh. Bird in the hand & all that

I'm a private cash buyer and I see the car as loss and accept it, so don't really worry so much about residual value. I won't be upgrading to the facelift 3 Series but rather wait till the next generation is out.

Agreed - I bought a 6 month old / 3k mile car, which cost me about 69% of list price. Bought with cash that was in the bank, earning virtually nothing in interest.
I've had it 13 months now, and am still delighted every time I get in it. I can see me keeping it another 3 years, and possibly even more.

Yeah, I should of brought nearly new but I went into my local dealer on the day the F31 was released.....I was weak and 7 days later I had put a deposit down on one. Cracking car but not used enough to warrant an upgrade as its only used on weekends/holidays.

In regards to the QE, the ECB will be buying up EuroGuv bonds which will in turn effect the price of the bond i.e. will prob go up, the flip side is the yield will go down, making it less attractive to an investor/trader. Now were are left in this horrid situation where ppl either move more of their cash out of euro Fixed Income and into Equities etc etc and off we go into another downward cycle. IHMO it looks like a shit storm is on the way, if the euro countries can't sort themselves out.
Only thing I understood here was that a shit storm is on the way... Not good!

Same here, although I do care about residual value the recent discounts took such a sting out of it that I would rather have an asset I enjoy than earn bog all interest in the bank.

Unfortunately discounts 1 week after release weren't massive but I still got 14% off, too far back now to worry about it, just enjoying the car. Will be blasting off to Austria next month, give the car a good run.

BMW should just set the retail prices lower to start with, they would sell more then as so many are sold to co. car owners where list price is everything.

Annoying to pay £32k for a 335d and have to pay company car tax on the £40k list.

Having said that, the UK prices are so cheap compared with Europe that I guess they cant go any cheaper.

There is of course a symbiotic relationship between the price of the bond and the yield. The expectation in Europe, as we saw in the UK, is what you say. QE will increase the price of the bonds, but inversely depress the yield.

IMO the "shit storm" is, to an extent priced into the European equity markets. However, if the result of Euro QE is to cause capital flight, in search of yield, look for high yielding equities (UK, Europe and further afield) to mop up some of this money.

As a rough guide, look at Broadspeed and Drive the Deal to see what discounts are likely.

Riaz has sworn me to secrecy after I haggled an arm and a leg off the price

Thanks for the heads up AlpineWhiteF30MSport, definitely the easiest to do business with out of the 3 BMW garages I spoke with and the best deal of the 3, win/win
