M performance rear spoiler came off

So today my spoiler came half off! Stupid mistake by me! Gutted. Can I try stick some 3m down only where it has come up or do i painfully have to now peel the rest of it off and redo!
Never felt the sturdiest to begin with car is 1 year old and it came with the option from factory.
Do I go back to Bmw then and see if it's under warranty?

Of course it's covered under warranty.. If BMW did it and you are still under your factory warranty it's covered. No worries. I would have BMW order and install an entirely new spoiler, unless of course they can guarantee their fix will work permanently.

Edit.. wait, what does "Stupid mistake by me! Gutted." exactly mean?

Thanks for the response. I wasn't even driving car was parked, was standing using boot and grabbed on spoiler by accident. Was really pissed.
I thought it will be under warranty but my dealer will do there best to get out of anything and say not covered or point out a blame that's on me!
Il give it a shot but any suggestions if I get fobbed off and it's a DIY

Sounds more like some action of yours knocked it off. Why should that be a warranty claim?

You just grabbed it and it came off? Assuming you're telling the truth, a simple grab of the spoiler should not have ripped it off.

It should not just come off by simply grabbing. Your dealer that installed it got some explaining, unless. Someone tried to rob you, and failed this leaving it loose and you happened to grab it. People on This forum hella fucking salty.

Lol. As stated it was the sturdiest to begin with and over recent months I could feel it moving when washing the car. And yes I guess to much pressure and it came up a quarter of the way. Again..have already stated it was a mistake of my own and wasn't insisting Bmw have to replace, hence why I was asking for helpful diy tips not unhelpful comments lol

Just go the dealer and tell them its half loose. Nevermind telling them house it happened.

Pretty sure its covered.

Hey just to note did a diy. Have a long journey ahead and didn't want to risk it blowing off and dealer wasn't able to look until later that day. Was only 7" which needed some more 3m so will see how long it holds and get it all re done properly if need be at later date.

You can take it off, remove and replace the DST and reattach it. I did it. It's a huge Pita, but it can be done. Make sure you get the right sized DST. I had to go to Amazon.

Because the spoilers adhesive sucks. Mine has been redone by the dealer and is peeling up again

I usually grab my spoiler when closing the boot. It's supposed to stay on for years and at speeds up to 155mph. It shouldn't have come off that easily so yeh I would claim warranty.

Some people should read first before expressing their holier than thou comments. The op was looking for suggestions, he never stated he was chasing warranty.

I had experience that if u use tops strong an adhesive, advantage is that it will never fall off.. Disadvantage is that you will never be able to remove it if you want to change it without spoiling ur trunk or paintwork.

I grab my CF spoiler all the time when closing my trunk. Never had once it come off, but I did do the installation myself with 3M tape all around the edge.

OP, it's very easy to redo it. Use a heat gun/blow dryer and heat up the tape underneath, while using a knife to just cut the tape off. You may have some very light scratches on the underside of the spoiler from the knife but it's nothing you can see after installation.

That made me laugh out loud.

But seriously if the car came with it, your dealership should fix it under warranty. It should not come loose under normal driving or washing, or even a little tugging, it should hold fast.

It should not be installed so poorly that shutting the trunk will cause it to break off. This car is rated to 155mph with the correct tires. Can't see if a trunk closing will break it off how it will stay in place on an open section of the Autobahn.

The really good installs are bolted on.

Use fishing line or dental floss. Forget you ever read to use a knife.

Don't fish so don't have any fishing lines handy. You can forget dental floss, it will hurt your fingers and break easily under heat, despite having triple threaded. I've debadged and took off adhesives from quite a few shots for my cars, so I'm comfortable with using a knife.

I grab my spoiler when closing the trunk too, it should be covered under warranty and not your cost to repair. It's not like you slipped on the ice and grabbed it to catch your entire body weight and ripped it loose. What you describe, at least if I understand you correctly, falls well wishing the normal use category.
