Dealer winter tire/wheel packages
In case anyone's interested, the dealers seem to have pricing for F30 wheel/tire packages now. They're predictably pricey, so personally I'll be looking elsewhere.
For reference, they gave me this: |

These guys always want to rip you off.
I'm going to go with my guy at Simply Tire. He's pretty trust worthy and has given me great prices in the past. He's also got road force balance which is very important for F30's. I'm thinking of getting the M5 reps in black along with either Blizzaks of Michellin X Ice in 18"...

Went to AIM... for non RFT's it'll probably be Blizzak LM-60 or XiCE Xi3... seems there isn't much info on Xi3's yet though (they are new, replacing the Xi2). Gonna check my hookups for the BMW package though. Keeping RFT would be nice. |

So I get an email from a contact of mine at Parkview regarding a "special" deal for winter tires.
I emailed him back asking for the price and type of tires. This is what he said: " BMW recommends that you use a BMW Runflat tire as there is no spare tire or jack in the car, as well I would suggest that you stay with an OEM original wheel vs. an after-market tire. The after-market tire pressure system doesn’t work well with the BMW product and could void your Roadside Assistants Warranty! The cost of the winter tire package includes installation / balancing / rims and tires. Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero 2 18" $3520.00 plus tax. "

I would like some help, please.
First, are you guys installing run-flat tires for winter or not? I know that we cannot keep a spare tire in the car, but honestly, I believe the chances of a flat tire in the winter months is pretty low, especially since we only drive them 5 months a year. And we have the BMW Assist in case there is a flat tire combined with the tire warranty. Secondly, do you think we can get good performance out of a winter tire on 18inch wheels? I know we don't live in Alaska to worry too much, but we do have a powerful machine to drive and around 2 months a year, we do get -20 degrees outside. Too bad we don't have Tire Rack in Canada. They look like they mean business. Thanks. |

Just got an email from my CA. I was told "RFT are very difficult to be switched back and forth, you risk damaging them" so BMW advises me to "get an entire set of winters with rims".
What do you guys think? |

Rec'd mine from Tire Rack
18's 225/45 Blizzak LM60 XL. Rial rims in anthracite painted, not sure of that decision but they're on the car. I had great luck with the previous Rial's on my 2010 335 msport which I just sold and just thought I'd go with darker colour. Price to door which I know someone will ask was 2199. Could have gone with ws70 I think they are called but felt I needed the more performance type even in winter. jmo. I do wonder if I should have gone with a more aggressive rims but remember, these ARE winters, instead of the 19 m sport summers. Hniel
