[B58_Touring]

Surely this can't be only on the X40i's, it must be the same box as the other auto F3X's? If they aren't making this noise would that not suggest its a B58 issue?

I have always had this noise and weirdly it is only apparent when the car first gets up to operating temperature (when the oil temperature reaches just below the middle). It is virtually silent when cold and dissipates slightly after a very long run. It is most noticeable in 2nd and 5th and faintly in other gears.

I have also read on the 1er forum that a high percentage of M140i owners have reported the same noise.

Do any other 340i auto owner experience this? I can live with the noise if it is a feature but am worried that this might lead to self destruction

Nope, nothing like the sound from your video! Maybe I'll be lucky? Got 3k miles on now from new so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks, SkyJawa! That is one hell of a thread. I guess ZF is not interested in making any more of these so called updated boxes that quieted down the whine. So it is luck of the draw at this point and no resolution unless your dealer is on your side it seems. I'm just curious that there's been so little being discussed on this forum as it seems the 340i and 440i has the same ZF box as the 140i.

No worries - its quite a disappointing response from BMW and ZF

I too have this gear whine sound only when the car is driven for a while(more than maybe 30min.) I heared it on low gear like 1 and 2nd.
