Signing up with Sirius XM Radio
I found really good deal on a US NBT Head unit that's used and I'm going to replace the one in my car since mine is from Europe (Retrofitted) and doesn't have the SDARS Radio.
When you guys sign up with Sirius XM, do you have to give them the VIN and proof of ownership or is the ESN number good enough?

I gave them the ESN, and if I remember, it was enough.

+1 on ^this.
For the ESN, when you want to have Sirius on the built-in tuner, you go to the SiriusXM site, and enter your VIN. IF you have the VIN from the donor car, same thing on the site. Else, wait for the kit to be installed, then get the ESN from the iDrive, as stated. I had it for free since I was the one who did the retrofit...

Went on the Sirius site, entered my VIN.
Got a popup telling me that I was entitled for a free year. Got the FSC to activate Sirius on my head unit, called Sirius and voilą !

I wonder if all ESN Numbers are reported to Sirius and if it needs to be on their database.
The guy on ebay told me that he got these NBT units from a recycling plant so they might not have even been assigned to a vehicle. Maybe they came from the Spartenburg plant in SC?

I got it from a retrofit supplier, but I know some members got them elsewhere, a little cheaper.
Simply do a in the forum, Coding section. Should find everything you need.
