Can anyone tell me what is the advantage of the conventional "remapped ecu" over the piggyback flash and vice versa?? I know right now piggyback seems to be the only option and which brand would be recommended?? Tks!

No you just install the N55 Stage1 and enjoy the extra power.

To answer another question no mileage changes during normal driving.

A dyno is not a must unless you want to see the power increase. I would dyno before install the new DP drive for a couple days so it adapts everything and re-dyno try to do it close to the same temp.

I would take a remapped ecu any day over a piggyback, i feel its a much safer and better way to go. A piggyback it seems like its fooling the stock ecu to think its running stock but the output of the piggyback adjusts a few sensor to get more power. In the audi/vw world we only did ecu flash's no piggybacks. 1 advantage i see with the piggyback is you can remove it and go to the dealer on a stock ecu.

Installed today! Went pretty smooth. I wanted to let others know who may be in the same boat as me (MacBook Air user), that I had no troubles using the free Windows 8 Preview OS via Parallels software. Just double clicked the driver app that comes with the JB3 software (found on n54tech website), after that just found what the com number was and everything was smooth sailing from there.

Got out and drove it a bit. It's 32 degrees here so i never mashed it off the line, but i could definitely tell a difference. Looking forward to the day we have nice weather again and the car has fully adapted to the tune!

There's no concern regarding the torque limit on the 8-speed AT?

I'm assuming the JB tune will far exceed 330 ft/lb....

I did change the upload timeout to 15 seconds before i tried updating the firmware.

EDIT: something went haywire and the engine kept dying, (got a cel and warning that engine was at half power, but it wouldn't even stay running). Of course this happened in front of the wife (she was already against the tune). Uninstalled for now and will attempt again this weekend, so disappointed.
No F30 firmware has been posted. So you probably screwed something up with the laptop if you tried to upload something? Email BMS if you need assistance.

Not an issue for the Stage1. When Stage2 comes around they'll do some addl higher torque testing on it.

I wouldn't listen to the BMW listed torque numbers to closely. On the 7spd DCT tranny for the N55's the limit is 400tq or so according to the numbers but only those who are pushing 450wtq+ start slipping.

Is the jb even an option/recommendation for people who are not very hands on with the car? I mean I can fill air in my tires if I read the manual, but cannot do more advanced stuff like opening the hood. Is professional installation available for this in AZ?
