All it says is

The adapted mechatronics and a special torque converter ensure that power is transmitted with maximum efficiency and comfort to the drive wheels on the rear axle

Doesn't say it's special and designed for alpina. They could be talking in general about how great the zf8 box is?

Question is what is the code on the alpina box is it the same as a x35d or the same as the x5 50d which has higher torque

+1 if you read a lot of Alpina sales info, it goes into how special this and that is, when it uses the same part as BMW do. Read the part about the brakes, and you'd think it uses some super special braking system, when it is just standard BMW fair. Maybe different pads at best, hardware wise.

I have the internal Alpina power point thing and it states that 20% gearbox components changed.
Thats all I know.

The gearbox can be flashed to alpina providing you have a coding cable and psdzdata full and ista D. I'm away with work but can point some in the right direction of a chap who will do it. It takes 4 minutes to flash the can be flashed back to standard

Wow, just looked on their site at the B5 touring. It looks amazing but with a base price of £91k it would need to be something very very special.

I'd be interested in knowing who can do the gearbox remap. Can they remap the steering to add some weight too?

Drive the car in Sport mode, that'll give the steering more weight.

Will take the 335d to santa pod this Saturday and will connect up the Vbox Sport to compare.
My Stage 1 335d vbox sport numbers;

Best 0-120mph: 14.07

Best 1/4 in 12.16 @ 113.5 on vbox sport - regular "private" road.
Best 1/4 mile in 12.23 @ 114.5 at Crail Raceway (only been to strip once; which was only 3 weeks ago).

1/8th was typically 7.80-83 @ 91-93

The Torque converter locks up after about 3 feet of travel and stays locked. Unlike the 335D or any current 8 speed BMW boxes.
Also the engine has uprated Pistons and rods.

From what reference though?
For the minimal volume of cars Alpina make, there is no massive budget to radically change gearbox internals to an Alpina design. Something even BMW avoid.
My guess is Alpina have shopped the ZF standard parts bin to come up with their modified box.....not that modified at all.

This is from Alpina themselves, its in their marketing document.

On the diesel engine no changes are made internally, not sure where this rods and pistons thing came from.
