2014 3 Series Bluetooth problems with Android Phones
2014 3 Series Bluetooth problems.
Has anyone else noticed with any android phone (I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with OS 4.4.2) that when playing music from the phone to BMW bluetooth, it constantly cuts in an out like it's losing signal. Also Youtube android app won't stream any sound?! What gives? I hear Iphone users don't have these issues??? When is Android and Samsung going to release these updates to BMW? Thanks! |

This is also happening on my S4 running 4.3. Not only that, but my WiFi is intermittent as well. Because of that, I am not sure if it is Android or Samsung that is the cause. I would love to hear from an HTC, LG or Motorola user, to see if they are seeing the same thing we are.
This is what frustrates me about Android. Too many hardware manufacturers to pinpoint if it's the phone or OS at times. |

So you just need some feedback on streaming BT audio from other Android devices? I can try a Nexus 5, HTC One (not the M8) and an S5 if you like. How long do you have to play a song before you hear this drop-out?

Thanks Fronzdan!
I don't wanna speak for the OP, but my experience has just been choppy music play and it happens right away. Almost like a dodgy cell phone call that you hear every other word. My hunch is that it is a Samsung issue. |

Thanks guys! Seems to be limited to my Note 2 running a custom 4.4.2 ROM... I may upgrade to a stock Nexus 5 or 6 when its available... Youtube magically worked the other day... very strange... dodgey Bluetooth audio streaming...

Does you F30 have Nav? What version of Bluetooth software is on your car? Sometimes you can find an update at www.bmw.com/update.
Note, Google has included several Bluetooth fixes in Android 4.4.3 and 4.4.4. Some Google Play devices are getting these upgrades and its already available for the Nexus 5. Carrier phones may or may not ever get this upgrade.

I checked both an HTC One on 4.4.2 and a Nexus 5 on 4.4.4. No problems streaming music. As Claykin suggested, be sure to upgrade your iDrive firmware to the latest, as it did list some device compatibility fixes.

I have a Nexus 5 on 4.4.4 as well with no issues, recently upgraded from an S3 that also worked fine.
I must say though that the way it streams is really annoying with Android. I know it isn't an Android problem because the BT streaming in my company Camry works flawlessly. |

Just a thought - what are your settings for google Now (and other such apps) - if they are always listening for you to say Google Now - the music may be causing the phone to hear the music, think about it, say (nah, its not saying "Ok Google"), start playing again, then repeat.

But there is maybe something else in the settings that makes the difference. |

I have this problem sometimes, and it was suggested in another thread to just switch back to radio, then, back to media and the stream would be fixed. This has worked for me, sometimes I have to switch back and forth twice, but it has been working flawlessly lately.
Also, I switched from a galaxy s3 to and s4 and now my texts come in as well.

I have the same exact issue with my S4 running 4.3.
(rooted so I havent done the 4.4 update yet) I was curious if 4.4 would help and from what others say it might. With that said though, my previous car was a Maxima and had the same exact problem. I found out that it only happened while my phone was in my pocket. If I put in on the seat or dash it never cut out. Also, the Maxima had a pause button, and pausing for a few moments solved the issue. (built up a buffer perhaps?) Ive yet to find a pause button on the 335 though, is there one in iDrive maybe? So I was hopeful that in the 335 I could find a place to put the phone or try pause, but thats not possible and/or didnt help. I think Ill try the 4.4 update on another S4 I have and see how that goes...

@Alan_NJ : I have a Galaxy S4 + 4.4.4 and have the problem. Please post your results when you have updated your S4.
I tried with Wifi disabled yesterday. I could get 2 x25min (commute to/from work) of Bluetooth music without any issue (music streaming from Spotify). I don't have any Wifi hotspot in the car, but maybe it's trying sometimes to connect to public hotspots. And that could create some interference with Bluetooth. The BT link with the iDrive system is maybe weaker than in some other cars. Just a theory ... Will do more tests, with/without Wifi enabled. And if it's Wifi related, have other options to try out. Like "Keep Wifi on during Sleep" and "Scanning always available" in the Wifi advanced settings (on the phone). |

I just got back from testing my other S4 that has 4.4.2 on it and it worked flawlessly with Pandora.
I didnt try streaming my music library via google. But with Pandora I had no drop outs whatsoever, whereas with my 4.3 phone it was unusable immediately, I couldnt make it 10 seconds into a song without a problem. This particular phone is bone stock and only has the one app installed on it. WiFi was enabled, but it wouldnt try to connecting to any hotspots since it doesnt know any. I drove for 15 minutes or so, parked and turned off the car, got back in after a visit to a store and Pandora picked up where it left off a few seconds after starting the car again. I made a couple more stops afterwards and it continued to play just fine. And on top of all that success, it looks like the AVRCP profile was updated in 4.4 and now I get track, artist and album names with the Pandora stream! No album art though, but that may be a Pandora limit since I didnt test with my own music. Tomorrow Im going to test with other streaming services and my own music to see how they work. But so far very promising!
