Lightbulb Leasematic - iPhone App

Hello everyone,

I've been a member here since 2007. Just want to share that I recently launched an iPhone lease calculator app called "Leasematic". If any of you guys are interested please check it out.

Link to the app:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/leas...593255005?mt=8

Some Highlights:
- Save, load, email and compare deals
- Summary screen offers dealer worksheet like breakdown!!
- Elegant interface, intuitive and accurate
- Handles complex Sales Tax scenarios including NY/NJ/OH/TX/IL+Chicago etc.
- Handles Multiple Security Deposits a.k.a. MSD
- Wizard mode entry

Check out this demo on YouTube:

Thanks!

BMWConfig.com calculator is very basic and like most online calculator its sales tax calculation is not accurate for all States. Different States have different rules for calculating sales tax on leases. For example, New Jersey wants all sales tax upfront or Texas charges sales tax on the selling price and also wants it upfront. BMWConfig or LeaseGuide.com will give you incorrect sales tax in this situation and won't be able to accurately roll it your monthly payments.

Besides being accurate, the App allows you to quickly save your deals, switch between them, copy and compare them. Which is very handy when you are playing with different configurations of the same car. The summary screen shows you full breakdown of everything -- very useful if dealers numbers are different than yours.

When I leased my X5 in 2010 I showed up to the dealership with my excel spreadsheet on my iPad. It helped me save a lot of money but I wished I had something more intuitive and phone friendly. $1.99, for well designed, accurate and feature rich app that has potential to save you a lot of money, is nothing in my books -- especially when you are spending thousands of dollars on a brand new BMW.

FYI, update 1.1 is out now with following changes:

- Added ability to copy saved deals in Load Screen (Slide cell towards right to copy)
- Improved error messages (instead of just saying "invalid input or required fields missing")
- Minor cosmetic improvements and fixes

For next update, I am building a custom keypad with built-in calculator functions. Here is a screenshot:

Great app! Only request would be to add a line for aftermarket parts like mPerformance exhaust and such. Adding the full value to the car doesn't necessarily net the correct value since only $250 of the 1335 can be residualized. With the app in it's current form I was able to get a rough number by adding $250 to the cap cost of the vehicle and the remaining 1085 to the "Other taxable fees" section.

Thanks!

There is clean way to handle this scenario: calculate the residual value manually and put the dollar amount in the residual value field as opposed to residual %.

For example:
MSRP: 50,000
Selling Price: $46,000
Residual: 60% ($30,000)

Performance Exhaust Cost: $1335
Performance Exhaust Residual: $250

For above scenario, put the following values in Leasematic:
MSRP: 51,335
Selling Price: 47,335
Resdiual: $30,250 (instead of putting %)

This is will give you accurate calculations. MSRP in this case won't be used in calculation but you can leave it there for display purpose.

Correction: I thought $250 is the "residual value" for the exhaust which is not correct. It is the "MSRP adder" (residualizable value, like you said).

This is even easier to handle: Add $250 to your original MSRP. Add $1335 to your Selling Price.

Using above example, it will become:

MSRP: $50,250.
Selling Price: $47,335
Residual: 60% (leave it as % - no need to put dollar amount).

I ran this imaginary deal in Leasematic and did a comparison. Total cost of lease went up by $1367!
