Take off at M2 instead of M1

I used to own a E92. When I use the manual mode in E92, the default take off gear was M2. However, the F32 default at M1. Is there a setting I can default the M2 as a default take off gear? Thanks.

Why on earth would you want to do that? I could see maybe if you wanted less torque in winter weather but aside from that it seems silly.

These cars "launch" better in 2nd because of traction reasons

I don't recommend using M2 to take off from a start even though that may be the default for the vehicle. My Z4 does the same thing when in manual mode without the sport button pressed. This would certainly cause more slipping between the engine and transmission thus shortening the life of a clutch or torque converter. But who knows what damage is really happening here.

F3x have torque converter transmission instead of double clutch transmission, your concern only apply to cars with DCT.

Any solution to take off at M2 would be greatly appreciated.

If you have the 8AT, it winds out really fast in 1st, so I can see why the OP would prefer a 2nd gear start.

Kind of funny since I perpetually complained that my E90 would stop in 2nd, and I had to manually drop it to 1st. My F30 goes to 1st, and now I want it in 2nd. LOL.

Even on E9x, the M1 has already been "too short" which is not suitable for daily driving. The F3x has more torque and I don't understand why it doesn't take off at M2...

All the top times run by the JB4 factory cars are 2nd gear starts. I also used 2nd gear launches when running my 335is.

Normal street driving 1st gear is good to go.

Comfort mode should start in 2nd, unless you've been driving aggressively enough in the last few minutes to alter the program. At least it does in my 335i.

When I've been driving aggressively it'll go to 1st though, which is a PITA when slow-rolling to a stoplight.

You can put it in M2 and it will launch in that gear, not sure why you would have that as the default though, you can use M2 in winter weather perhaps, but since it's manual mode you're shifting manually anyway so just put it in M2.

The 8AT will force itself down into M1 as it drops below 2-3mph. The E90's 6AT would stay in M2 even when you came to a dead stop and would only go to M1 if you put it there.

Around here people are slow to leave red lights, you legitimately have to try not to run into the back of them, but 1st is so short it makes for a jerky experience in congested areas.

Ah so the difference between the 8AT=M1 and the 6AT=M2?

No way to get the 8AT to start in M2 then? pity. I hate the shortness of M1.

My 335i usually stops in 2nd gear when in comfort mode. It's easily tested - just come to a complete stop then flip the transmission lever to sport mode and you feel and hear a clunk as the transmission downshifts. If I've been driving aggressively and gunning the gas then it starts stopping in 1st instead, which is usually presaged by aggressive downshifting (and resulting engine-braking) when coasting to a slow stop.
