Remove plates after lease transfer?

I am in NJ and about to transfer my current lease to someone in NJ as well. Do I need to remove the plates on the car after the process? or it should go with the car?

Yes, you just hand them the plates and they give you a receipt. If you don't turn them in you can get a fine. Also they're registered to your name so if they get hit with a red light camera with those plates you can get some ticket in the mail

How does the buyer drive the car if I take the plates off?

Really up to the buyer. He can tow it or he can get it reg'd before picking it up and have plates/temp ready to mount. Over the years I have driven home cars without a plate while holding the bill of sale, always insured it before getting on the road and made no pit stops. I never had a problem but YMMV. Just don't make any guarantee's to the buyer. Getting the vehicle transported is his responsibility, as is the entire car once you sign it over. I'd never reccomend loaning plates.

I've normally driven the car and drop it off at the property but I would charge the person for my and my friend time and fuel. Most buyer historically are okay with it as long as your not charging above a tow truck fee

my question is you're doing a lease transfer, so he has to go to the dealer and put the car the lease in his name? have them take care of it

You don't need a dealer when swap a lease. Just sign and mail the paperwork from BMWFS.
