Agree. Only, I don't think BMW is marketing this car to enthusiasts.

I wasn't talking the F30, I was only referring to the 335i because to my understanding BMW only sells a few for every 328i that is sold. The X1 has been extremely popular since its release outside the US and historically wagon sales are very small so I think there are many other reasons for the X1 sales success.

Agree, I would avoid those wheels.

Not that crazy about te wagon. That 320i would be a great choice for first time BMW buyers. Lure all of them into BMWs

I see a lot of 3 series and 5 series around Boston.

Just from our personal experience, we needed more doors than our 135i, but didn't like the way the F30 drove (too large) and didn't want the heaviness or extra size of the F25. Now that it's clear that the F31 will be awd only and of course no N55, I have no regrets. Money was not a factor, we would have gladly paid for the 335i, in fact we went fully expecting to get one.

I've never understood the "you must not have had the money" argument when dealing with cars of vastly different size or focus. A 5er is a different car than a 3er and I doubt many folks seriously cross shop them, but I have certainly been wrong before. The X1 is really just an awd E91 with a slightly higher suspension, it's nothing like the X3, which feels and drives much more like an SUV than a sedan/wagon.

Exactly right. Standard xDrive is the only reason I'm not talking to my dealer about late summer ED right now.

You tasteless baby boomers are the main reason why we can't get a good selection of these cars.

Wagon options

Drivetrain and price issues aside, the wagon looks pretty good. It's never been an enthusiast car per se, but fits into the family-hauler role well and can serve double duty hitting a back road every now and then. On that basis the x-drive makes sense, although it's too bad they don't also offer RWD.

Looking at these photos, I'm curious if you can do a custom order with the sport wheel and paddles as shown, but not limit yourself to the sportline (or whatever it's called) interior choices? Anyone know from f30 ordering if that's possible?

As far as the 335 vs 328 argument, for the money the 328 is a solid choice, given it's only a second off pace against a 335 up to 60. Now, if you're buying for how it sounds, it's a no brainer...

I owned an E46 wagon for 8 years -- fantastic car. When BMW first introduced the E46 wagon, they brought in the Xdrive model first and the RWD model followed about a year later. I wonder if we'll see the same approach with the F31?

Same happened with E91. I really hope this repeats with F31 too.

I hope so too. I'd love a RWD wagon. The lack of a true lowered sports suspension is what's holding me back on the wagon.

Notice sports seats in the wagon without Sports or Msport line. If that is a US spec car, thats crazy that you can get that in the wagon but not the sedan. I would love sports seats in some of the other colors available on other lines.

But they keep giving every engine option under the sun to the SUVs. From what I see here, the 335, sDrive3.5i, xDrive3.5iTypeR models sell really well.

They should've given us a 335i wagon instead of that awful 335i GT.

So there is a $4600 premium for the 328 xDrive wagon over the 328i sedan and $2600 over the 328 xDdrive sedan? Sorry, no way BMW, regardless of what engine is in there.
I'd absolutely pay more for the utility and looks. I'm not interested in a sedan at any price. Just not interesting to me.

The difference is, the X5 with 225hp was weak. I get it, not wanting to buy the 'lesser' car; I've been much the same way, I've never even owned a non-M BMW. But the 328 with N20 is FAST. It's faster in a straight line than my M Coupe. It shouldn't have a problem hauling around xDrive and a wagon body. I suppose all things being equal I'd go with the N55, but frankly I want something like a proper 3.0 diesel and a 6 speed manual.

That's what I'm wondering about as well. You can't configure one with the sport wheel and paddle shifters online without adding in the Sport / Msport line -same as the seats. Wonder if it's a unique build just for the show?

This link below is a global representation of BMW model sales. Keep in mind the 3 touring sells well outside the US, but even still, X models outsell the wagons which is why they offer more choices. They probably have a higher profit margin.
