Heated Seats Settings -

Hey members so, now that it's winter I'm using the heated seats alot more often but what burns me up is that when turning it on it sets itself to MAX (three green leds) automatically. Here is what I'm talking about (not my picture, found it on the web)

Guess my cheeks like to be gradually heated

Is there a way to change the setting to start on the lowest setting and go up (as per the e90s)? On the other hand my fiancé loves the fact that I goes directly to inferno setting...

Sorry, if this has been covered but I've searched for answers and could not find a previous post.

P.S. Is it possible to change the settings via iDrive (wishful thinking)?

Thats the way it is on the E90s as well. I guess BMW figures when you're starting from a cold seat, max is fastest way to make it hot. As far as I know, theres no way to change this.

Really, I could swear that it would start on the lowest setting for me on my old 2010 e90 328i (but hey I could be wrong).

Well I can only speak for my own car - 2006 E90 325i. Starts at max.

Why not just push the button again to select a lower heat setting? I guess it just comes down to what you are accustomed to from previous cars.

To piggyback onto this thread (and this may be in the manual, not sure) but how long does the car have to be shut off before the heated seats and heated steering wheel are reset to "off." I find it very convenient that when I pop into the dry cleaners or a quick trip to the store that both the seat and the steering wheel heat settings go right back to where I left them when I start the car back up, but if I leave the car overnight at home or all day at the office, the settings are reset the next time I get in. Just curious if anyone knows the time limit for this feature?

Maybe I'm missing something but regardless of the outside temps mine starts on OFF, not HIGH. I just push the bottom 3 times to get it to 1 light and I'm good to go.

That's right the heated seats start on off then when you switch them on they go to the highest setting automatically, and then they have to be adjusted to the lowest setting !
The point is why when you put the heated seats on don't they start on the lowest setting & then if you should want more heat you can adjust them upwards .
Lets face it , when you put the wipers on they don't start on the fastest setting, they start on the lowest. Why don't the heated seats follow the same logic ?

Strange isn't it how different users have the opposite opinion. I see it that we want maximum heat when we start using heated seats and then regulate downwards, as we get warm enough.

BTW, we have a VW Caravelle and that is the same, regulate downwards.

For me seat heating is set up correctly. Wipers are switching for how we typically use them, certainly for how I use them.

On me E92, if I stop to get gas or something my seats retain last state but steering wheel does not. I just replaced my steering wheel heat module last month because the wheel would not heat on cold days; I don't know if older modules worked differently. My seats go high, med, low, off as I press the button. 2009 MY car.

Got in my car today for the first time with a cold cold day and was loving the heated seats max start! As other say; you just regulate downwards from there, which actually seems more normal, get warm fast then decrease intensity to stay warm as your body heats up...

I did wish I had heated SW today tho... It was arctic!! (Can this be retrofitted??)

Yes, I completely agree. Mind you I am ok with switching the button myself (to spare my cheeks , haha) but start at the lowest setting.

Guess, you guys feel opposite, which is fine. Seems like I'll have to deal with it . On a similar topic I saw a very interesting heat setting for a 6 Series via iDrive, check this out. Makes me wish we had this but then again it would have been MUCH more expensive...

I have the same issue, but in my F31 the heated seat (driver), is turning off after 3 minutes. The passenger heated seat enabled till ignition off.

Where i can coding to enable more time of the heated seat (driver seat) ?

I looked at the coding sheets, couldn't find it. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it probably does, but if so the cheat sheet creator didn't identify it. Heated seat coding is in FEM_BODY 3090, if you speak German maybe you can find the timer settings. The cheat sheet does show coding the temperatures reached with the three settings. Where that's concerned, settings 1, 2 and 3 have no bearing on how fast the seats heat, only on how warm they get.

That's more or less what the coding does, allowing an independent pre-set temperature limit for the lower seat and the seat back at each setting. I'm not sure doing it in iDrive is better, that's a lot more distracting when driving than simply choosing between settings 1,2 and 3.

The heat intensity can be coded with Carly with a choice of 4 different temps for each level.

E-Sys does the same thing, but there's no code listed for the duration before the heat turns off.

The switch is a thermostat. The default setting for 1 indicator is about 95F, for 2 105F, for 3 about 115F. If you know where you prefer it then you could set it there to begin with. However, your clothing is insulation, especially if you have a heavy coat on, so what the thermostat inside the seat reads for temperature isn't going to be what you feel until after your clothing has sufficiently warmed. That's one reason why you probably want to go with the highest setting initially, turning it down once you've become comfortable. The other is the seat being the only heat source until the engine warms; after it does you may not need as much heat from the seat. Those factors explain why BMW has it go to setting 3 instead of 1 when you turn it on. Ever been to Bavaria in winter? It's not like they don't know what it is to be cold. OTOH I've got a bad back, which feels better with the seat hot most of the time.
