Still no 2018 3 series news posted by BMW?

So, it seems bmwusa is update. Based off the pictures, the M sport doesn't get the digital gauge cluster nor an option for it whereas the ShadowSport Edition has it standard? Anyone have expertise knowledge on this? Thanks!

Really?! In order to get the HK audio upgrade for $875 you HAVE to also get the $2900 "Premium Tier"?

That's FK'd up BMW!
It sure does look like German auto maker collusion because even Audi now requires an additional expensive package upgrade in order to order the B&O audio system that up to last year was a stand alone option.

I really hope this is just an oversight on the new order website and the HK audio is still a stand alone option.
If not, then it will cost $2900 + $875 = $3775 just to get a not that great audio "upgrade". The base system is so very lackluster that anyone who enjoys listening to music at higher highway speeds needs the HK upgrade. But for nearly $4000, BMW you LOST me.

If this is true, then your ridiculousness will result in my NOT getting a 5th BMW.

This too steers me away but a lot of manufacturers know what standalone options people want the most then force the packages on them or just toss the option into a sea of packages that you are stuck with. At least give us the option to order it that way!!!!

Skip it and do the bavsound and bimmertech upgrade. Cheaper and sounds better than the HK. I think I got all speakers, subs, amp plus center tweeter for $1,500 to $1,600. And it isn't overly sharp like the HK, or overly boomy like many factory top end radio packages.

Agreed. Avoid spending money on HK if you can it's really not up to BMW standards.

$3500 will buy a lot of aftermarket options.

Yes, this is the least impressive HK system I have heard dating back to 2002.

Digital gauge cluster is part of the Executive Package (ZPX). Shadow Sport doesn't come standard with it.

yup, here in canada benz does the same on the C43. need the $5200 premium package if you want the upgraded burmester sound system. the stock system is an embarrassment for a $60K+ car. my wife's honda fit has a superior system in it. that and a few other things turned me right off the C43.

It's really not that bad. Audiophiles will always want more no matter what. I wouldn't say it's great but it's definitely good.

Spending some time adjusting the EQ pays huge dividends. I have no complaints about the HK for an in-car audio system. I've definitely heard worse, and I have golden ears.

I'm not saying it's bad, just that it a step down from previous models. I think it is mostly the tweeters - they are very harsh and overly sloppy. You can turn them down with the EQ, but I had to turn them down to where there was little or no high end to not be harsh to my ear. I bet you could just swap out the tweeters and it would be a significant improvement.

yeah i checked it out (albeit briefly) on a 2018 F32 and thought it was very good. i'm not an audiophile per se but i demand a lot from a system. thought bass response was clear at higher volumes and highs and lows were well balanced.

This is my observation in my own car

Sorry, realized I made a mistake in my previous post. It sounded bad. I corrected it.

Sorry about that.
I should have specified that it's for the 330i.

Agreed.
It's not an audio system worthy of a BMW, the base system even less so, especially in the US market.

I used to do my own audio systems and I know that I can build a system that blows away the HK system.
However, I'm not into tearing apart my cars anymore.
The HK is acceptable, not great, but acceptable at $875.
It should be the standard audio system and then a REAL audio upgrade for that price.
But then BMW is not a "value added" brand.

Titanium domes tweeters, like in the HK system,
can really suck, and they are fatiguing at higher volumes for longer periods of time.

I prefer silk dome.
I have a couple sets of really nice silk dome tweets, but never got around to putting them in.

I did install silk dome tweets and new subs in my former 135i, but I left the 335i and 340i alone.

I'm hoping the new G20 3 will get a REAL audio "upgrade".
