Turning off my new 3

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I've had the new 2012 3 series for nearly a month now. When I go to turn the car off, I have to hit the button twice. The manual says I should only have to push it once. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Pushing once turns off the engine (if auto stop/start didnt already), pushing twice kills all the accessories.

Interesting. Do the accessories turn off if you leave and lock the car after only pressing once?

Yes, if you lock it they turn off. If not, they stay on for about 15 minutes, then turn off.

Are you pressing it quickly? If you press and hold it just a little longer everything should shut off. At least that's how it is on my E90.

Yeah I'd like to know too because my F01 does the same thing - it drives me up a wall. My e90 shuts all the way off when I push the start/stop button, which is a sigh of relief when I drive it.

I think it's by design. My X5 did it, and my F30 is doing it. One time pressing turns the engine off but not the radio/nav/etc, second time pressing or locking the car turns everything off.

Hitting it once turns off the engine. Twice turns off the accessories. And yes, if I hit it only once and leave the accessories on, locking the doors turns off everything. Occasionally it has all turned off when hitting it once, but randomly. Thanks for the suggestion about holding the button slightly longer. That might be the only issue. I'm at the tint shop right now. Looking forward to seeing it done.

This is the same case for the E89 Z4. I actually prefer it this way. In my Lexus IS, one push turns everything off but if I just want to park or stay in the car with the radio on with the engine off while I wait for someone, I don't want to have to push the start/stop button again with my foot off the brakes just to turn on the radio. And as other said, once you lock the car, everything turns off anyways.

Great call. I too had an IS and that was an annoying feature. Thanks for pointing out the obvious benefits of this option.

Press and Hold. All should turn off. At least the E9x worked that way.
