An economy that needs to levy a 100%+ tax on a car is an economy that needs more that governmental support.

In New Zealand;
- GST (Sales tax) at 15% (same as all other products sold)
- On-road costs (vehicle registration etc) of around $500-$750

That's it.

Holy cow, that is expensive! I thought NZ was expensive compared to the US, but that's incredible.

Thankfully we have no additional govt taxes, duties, excises other than standard GST. The price difference here is down to a small market and BMW NZ margins!
