road and tire noise
All,
I have a 2013 328i that I bought last Spring. All is good except for the road noise from the front wheels. I swapped out the run flats for regular tires and that helped. Still much too loud though. My next step will be to seal up that half inch wide gap in front of the doors between the firewall and the fender. BMW has an insulation piece to do this, part 51487286655 and 56 for the other side. Has anyone installed these pieces? did they quiet it down? Beyond this I was amazed to see that the thin wheel well liners are the only acoustic barrier between the wheels and the engine compartment. I plan to pad these up with something as well. I might also goop up the wheel well liners with some type of roof tar to reduce noise transmission but will do that only if the previous steps don't help enough. I did a brake job recently on an A6 and the firewall is solid in front of the doors. Don't know how MB does it. |

Can't help, sorry. My 2014 335i is quiet. I had an issue with wind noise around the right side of windshield, but they replaced the molding there and...it's quiet.
I have Michelin AS3 + tires. What did you go with? Friend of mine put new Bridgestones on his Q50 and they were LOUD. He was able to get the tire place to swap them out at no cost. |

This has been discussed before. One of these days I may order the seals mentioned and try it myself.
