Director of banking operations for a big bank in nyc, wife works in financial technology. Salaries are good but it costs so much to live here in a 2br condo and raise a kid or two that a job loss or other career interruption would be a major setback. We also have very specialized jobs that aren't particularly portable.
After 20 years of driving only VW i got an e90 as the first bmw, lost it in sandy, then got an f30. It's turning out to be a great family truckster but I still miss the sportiness of the e90. |

68 and pensioner. My first BMW and wanted a car thar reflected my newly impoverished status and hoped that having one parked in the drive would also discourage burglars. Fortunately I am not so poor I have to drive a diesel so life not too bad.

Another software engineer.
In the south bay it just passed $2000. I'm not even talking about the best school districts or upscale areas. |

33, Finance Professional/Bank Executive, paid very well and over-worked.
I grew up working summer jobs in landscaping through high school, then moved on to a few retail jobs (hardware, sporting goods, etc) and various part time gigs through college... I spent a couple months hucking boxes for FedEx, tested paint for an industrial coatings mfg., I filled seasonal catalog orders for a large apparel company, was an office assistant, was a ski technician, restrung tennis rackets, did research phone surveys for my university... There hasn't been a 2-3 week stretch in the last 17 years where I haven't "punched a clock" at work. My parents and grand parents were professionals and live(d) comfortable lives. I wasn't given shit and not bitter at all. I've driven over the years... 1986 Toyota Camry Manual 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan 1998 Honda Civic Manual 2005 Saab 9-3 No car in Chicago (2007-2010) 2011 BMW 328i (company car) 2013 BMW 328i (totaled last month) 2015 F80 (Coming in November!)

IT Field Account Management Get paid for what I know not what I do. Prior to being recruited into my current role 2 years ago I worked at a F100 company doing infrastructure engineering involving both hands on keyboard and leadership roles for 12 years. I truly found a dream job. I get paid exceedingly well for minimal effort and work from home to boot. This allows me to watch my kids grow up before my eyes, and my wife to quit her (well over 100k) job to stay at home to raise them. Truly a blessing all around. I live by my fathers advice told to me when I was young. Respect all those around you and find your passion in life for a career. I do not yet have a BMW. I was set on getting a 435i GC, but after specing it out....it was within 10k of my M3 build. Thus, going with an M3 is a much higher value proposition and the option I'm going with =)

I'm a 34 year old software engineer.
Thanks to the cost of housing and raising kids...etc, I would not be driving a BMW if it wasn't for my $1.99 iPhone app. I paid for 100% of my car and the wife's Audi using "App Store Money". |

35 - in medical affairs for a large pharma.
I started doing research at NIH/NIDDK when I was 15 (yup, had to get a work permit!), which led to a BS/PhD in Genetics/Immunology in 2006 (most recently I finished an MBA too since my job covered it). Got the BMW for myself as a graduation present... Got hooked on the brand when my brother left his JB4 tuned 135i (N54) at my house when he lived in Manhattan - I drove it for a year, and had to have one for myself.
