Blind Spot Monitoring System
Hi Guys, just wondering if any other F30 owners out there on the forums have optioned the BSM option.
What I want to know is if any one knows with coding/or at a dealer, if it can be altered so it activates at much lower speeds? at the moment, the F30 BSM kicks in at either 50-60k/hour. Driving a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland and a 2013 Mercedes ML over the past month, i noticed that the BSM activates almost from 5k/hour. which is so much more convenient when doing slow city driving in and out of traffic. Any info would be appreciated. Cheers,

Driver 'blind spot' is a myth. When setting up your exterior mirrors correctly with respect to your driving position, there should be overlapping image between the inside rear vision mirror and appropriate exterior mirror.
Most people set their mirrors so they can see the sides of their cars when the driver is seated and facing the front. That setup is incorrect. The external mirrors need to be aimed further outwards so the sides of the car are not visible. You need to be able to see cars in adjacent lanes. 1- Get into the proper driving position. 2- Lean to your right so that your right cheek is pressing up against the door window. Then adjust your driver side mirror so you can just barely see the edge of the vehicle. 3- Lean to your left so your head is right in the centerline of the vehicle, adjust the passenger side mirror so you can barely see the edge of your vehicle. 4- Center mirror lines up straight back. 5- What blind spot?

I Guess thats your way of saying you never optioned the BSM David? hehe..
Blind Spot is definitely not a myth, its just so much better to the be able to cruise on the freeway and find out how and where cars are positioned by glancing in mirrors and BSM.. Its not a side mirror replacement, more so just an added security measure. Will try the mirror setup and see if that adds to the experience. Cheers Quote:

I had the mirrors setup the correct way since I took delivery of my E90, over 7.5 years ago. That's when I found the post (E90Post). No blind spot but I still do a quick head turn. Having the side mirrors correctly positioned will positively add to the experience, but it may take some time to get used to, especially if one is used to looking at their car doors through them.

BSM works great. Downside is it makes you lazy when you drive a car without it. It works fine at 60km/hr or 110 km/hr. A HUD visual warning would have been good but the little triangles on the mirrors don't take long to get used to.
