2016 340i xDrive vs. 2016 Mercedes C450 AMG Comparo - Autos.ca
http://www.autos.ca/car-comparisons/...450-amg/?all=1
Pretty close head to head, with the 340 eeking out the victory. Last edited by Brian_R; 11-11-2015 at 06:48 AM.. Reason: Linky Linky |

Good. I'm sick of hearing about the 450AMG. Drop in the new PPK and the 340 will be an animal.

Did I miss actual measured acceleration? All I saw in the article was manufacturer's estimates.

"BMW claims the 340i will achieve 100 km/h from a rest in 5.1 seconds; Mercedes boasts its more powerful C450 will do it in 4.9. If anything, those figures sound conservative by the seat-of-the-pants."

If it was my money, I might actually lean towards the C at this point in time. As always, since the 3 and C class body change are a few years apart, it's getting close to the point where the 3 is starting to look stylistically out dated since it was introduced in 2012 - 5 years with the current body. This might just be because there are a ton of them on the road now. We're starting to see more and more lease returns hit the road The current C class has been out since 2014 - 3 years with the current body, and they are fewer and far between than the 3 for that reason. If both cars drove reasonabily well for my needs, I'd probably take a C450 if I was looking for a 4 door sports sedan at this point in the game...

While it felt more luxurious, it didn't feel more usable to me. The screen that is basically stuck to the dashboard, the column shift knob, the unresponsive touch pad and the buttons that seemed to be everywhere. |

I test drove one tonight for about 20 minutes in pouring rain. The steering, in my opinion and having owned an F30 328i Sportline w/ VSS, was better than any BMW I have driven in the past year (including F48 X1 test drive). The C450 simply felt great, with an interesting interior design. Yes, buttons were confusing, the stalks were interesting, but towards the end of my drive I finally got used to the stalk mounted transmission shifter. Did not use the COMAND system too much, and yes, it is more confusing than iDrive or MMI. Did put the car in both Comfort and Sport+, and could feel the difference when going over rough roads. I love BMW, but this time around, I am going to try the C450 for a few years. Going to look for a certified pre-owned C450 next year (car I test drove was >$61,000 pre-negotiation).

It's all about the one that feels most satisfying, meets your needs, and gives you the best feeling for your money. Brand loyalty should have to be earned each time a person shops for another car.

Patiently awaiting for the forum member who has a C450 on order who swears it's a true AMG. Sorry, but having all season tires come standard is just one example that it isn't. Several other examples are peppered throughout this article, the most obvious being that the 340i is the "more livelier performer". As blubaron states, include the OEM mppk/mpe and it's game over. Next up, 2017 S4.

Again, not a real AMG.
It may be tuned by them, but not a real one as it's not a handcrafted engine. It's basically equivalent to the MPPK, tuned by m division but not a M car. |

No, BMW doesn't offer xDrive with a sports suspension. The real equivalent here would be an M340i xDrive. Except for those all season tires, which is just weird on M-B's part.

It's "AMG Sport" - definitely not true AMG. Just like Audi S-line cars and BMW M-Sport. Also, if you spec the 19" wheel options, you do get summers. The nice part about the AMG Sport is that you get AMG adaptive dampers the same as on the C63, and a more performance oriented 4matic system vs. normal MB cars. One of the key telling features that it's not a true AMG is that the engine is not hand crafted.

Just checked out a new C450 at local dealership (didn't get a chance to drive) and was impressed with the interior but really disliked all the shiny chrome bits on the exterior (it even had chrome door handles). I don't know if that is standard or part of an option package but I think it really ruined the sporty look of the car. Now I need to schedule a test drive.
Sorry for the crappy iPhone pics: |

I actually test drove a C450 AMG today, since I wanted to see how it performs. I was thinking about getting the coupe version when it's released next year. Overall, I didn't like how it drove. It sounded good though.
I put the C450 in Sport+ mode, and the noticeable turbo lag annoyed me. My old 335i "felt" much faster. This new C450 felt a little sluggish. Honestly, I like my 328i M Sport better, and I'm not 100% a fan of it either (shoulda got a 335i). But this new Benz made me appreciate BMWs in general. Now I'm waiting for a 440i. I also hated the shifter, it's in the steering column. I'll pass. |
