Gran Coupe or X4?

My current F30 lease ends in just a couple of months. I'm in need of something with a little more cargo versatility, i.e a hatchback. I realize neither of these gives cargo capacity a priority, but the hatchback will suit my needs better than the F30 trunk opening.
I like how both of these are little different from their related vehicles (F30 and X3) and add some style to the mix. I'd love to stay with the BMW brand...
So, looking for some pros/cons to having either of these, hoping current owners can chime in or even those that may have cross-shopped...

I have a GC and very happy with it. However, the day I ordered it I saw in the showroom for the very first time an X4, sticker price was almost identical to my GC.

It looked a lot better than I expected, and I thought the interior was very nice, possibly better than the GC's, but overall it wasn't enough to convince me to change. Might be a better option if you go skiing often or drive on poor quality roads a lot.

What about an F31?

Looks better than the salon, not driven by reps and more versatile

I would also go with a GC Msport, the X4 headlights looks pretty bad designed...

If you truly want cargo space, I'd do this, or an X3 (or maybe an X1). I love the styling of the GC, but I'm not sure it has a ton of cargo space. Personally, I think the X4 is awful looking--but that's subjective, so it depends on what you like.

I considered the X4, got the GT. It has more passenger and cargo space, and sits a lot lower. I considered the GC as well, but it doesn't have the rear seating room and cargo space that I need.

A GT is a no brainer. Why anybody would choose an X4 over it is something we'd need a rocket scientist to figure out.

X4 has an interior that's dated already

It's really a simple decision:

Do you want the sleekest and sexiest four-door of the 3 Series/4 Series range or do you want the the largest and most bulbous of the range?

Not sure about that (overpriced) X4, the GT is probably the most sensible choice. For styling on smooth FL roads - GC for sure!

Based on what you say you need, an F31 seems to be the right choice but I know the wagons are polarizing in people's opinion.

Do you want something useful, or an overpriced, glorified 3 series with a hatch? We all know that 4GCs are just 3s with hatches. At least the GT, and lesser so the X4, are useful and can haul stuff and people. The GC is no bigger than the F30, and useless for hauling.

Not sure why the hostility towards the Gran Coupe, I don't recall others treating the GT this way.

The Gran Coupe is not a hatched 3 Series. The Gran Coupe is the Coupe with two extra doors. It's platform, chassis, and componentry is 99% identical to the Coupe, the only difference is a slightly different roof that is only visible in side-by-side animated GIF's. That's why BMW calls it a 4 Series and a "Coupe". Because it is.

Those who want a lower and wider and sportier and more exclusive car and can afford it easily choose the Gran Coupe over the Sedan. The GT and X4 are for people with dogs or perhaps run a small business requiring tools or equipment in the boot.

As someone who has owned both the F30 and the F36 I can tell you quite factually that the Gran Coupe has better utility than the Sedan due to its wide access luggage compartment, makes it far easier to get things in/out and does so without compromising the drop-dead gorgeous looks. What BMW did with the Gran Coupe is a styling and engineering marvel. Lumping it in with the GT and the X4 is convenient for the haters, just because it opens its hidden trunk like those other cars doesn't make it a utility vehicle. It's a sportscar.

You're dreaming. The 3 and 4 are the same car. Same platform. To believe anything else is moronic. You bought a 3 series with a hatch. Its no more a sports car than any 3 series. If anything its less so, due to the large opening in back compromising chassis rigidity.

I would choose the GC, 'cause I'm a car guy. But, the X4 looks really great and has a certain amount of additional SUV utility. It's a toss up and the deciding factor is whether you're a car guy or would rather have an SUV. BMW SUVs drive much better than typical SUVs, but they're still "trucks", not cars.

I'm not sure why you hate the Gran Coupe this much but now that I think of it, my wife and I hated each other the first year we first met, been a wonderful 20 years since.

Like the rest of us, you will wind up in a Gran Coupe. And when you do, I won't hold a grudge about the things you say today. Instead I will help you pick the right color and congratulate you on choosing such an awesome car, the best looking BMW currently manufactures.

True. The performance, driving dynamic differences are inconsequential.

My order of consideration if more room was a requirement would be
new x5, f30 wagon, grancoupe, and then the x4.
