Had my 330d m sport for 10 days and I love it.

Been doing all my driving in Eco Pro mode and so far with 150 miles to go until the next fill up, am getting an additional 50 miles added with an economy of 46 mpg.

This has been achieved through normal driving and an odd heavy right foot.

What's everyone's best?

I had one (edit 330d) on a extended demo before ordering my own. It had 2k on the clock and managed 45.3mpg on average over my 11 mile commute (43mpg), twice each way. Then a longer run (43 miles giving 49.8mpg) to postpone handing it back.

I'd already had a fun test drive and so was investigating the economy potential. Zzz. I used Eco Pro for this period. However, in hindsight I wonder if it would be best only switching to Eco Pro once the car is warmed up. It was taking about 6 miles/10 minutes for me to hit normal operational temperature. About 8C outside. I just wonder if this may happen quicker if left in comfort. Marginally higher revs etc.

Given the torque of the car I doubt it would be labouring in Eco Pro. So, unlikely to give rise to any issues either way.

Either way, a car that loves longer runs.

I'm averaging just over 51 mpg over 10,000 miles and never use Eco mode because the car just feels dead, might as well have a 1.6 diesel!

IMHO, there's just no other car on the market with this level of performance and real world fuel economy

I can easily hit 65 mpg in my xDrive 320D, did 200 odd miles the other day at this economy. Most of my trips for work are 200-500 miles round trip. This is sitting at 70mph on the motorway, not drafting anything, overtaking when necessary. But it is being very careful with the throttle whilst cruising. It's amazing how you can still make progress but at a much smaller throttle opening. It's a retraining thing getting good economy and thats why the gauges are so helpful.

When I can't be arsed to monitor my driving I get about 45 mpg in comfort/sport/varied in typical 20 mile trips. Eco-pro does make a difference to fuel economy as it changes the gearbox mapping. At a constant cruise, there is a marked difference in instant economy between the three settings so I suspect outside of the mindset you have when you drive in eco-pro, most of the physical difference is in the revs used. Certainly the use of the economy meter and the instant fuel consumption gauge is the best way to massively improve the economy.

I also agree that when cold, starting off in comfort, getting up to speed quicker is probably more fuel efficient. Switch to eco-pro when up to speed and the engine is warm.

Got mine up to 60mph on a run in eco pro once, but sod driving like that all the time, I may as well just have bought a 318d

Don't forget, on the F30 the temperature gauge is engine OIL temp. Engine water will have reached operating temp long before.

17500 miles for me and 53mpg. Do a bit of Eco-Pro on my 20 mile each way commute as I'm in no rush to get there!

Haha I tried Eco pro mode tonight and it felt like the car had lost 150bhp.

I can see its benefits however if you just can't restrain yourself using the other modes.

I'm with you dopper99. Have tried it and see a 10-15% bump in economy, although with a 99% drop in fun, I quickly switch back to Sport + and paddle shifting.

I appreciate it is there for some, but it's not for me.

After running my car in solely in Eco pro mode since April, I can confirm it is awful. It may save you fuel but if you want a car that drives with little pickup just buy a mercedes. Admittedly, I don't have anything like a 330d so performance is just ample on my F10 but the dampening of the accelerate just removes all fun.

Get the conditions right and it could be possible. But not with normal driving, unless the speed is reduced.

Note the fuelly figures... Not an average, or even a best figure.

Fair one, I haven't really tried so 47mpg sat around slightly more thank legal motor way speeds I think is ok. Not that i am overly concerned as i would have bought another 320D if fuel consumption was an issue.

Yes, not my average by any means. A single one shot trip around the M25 and up the M40. Probably about 10/12 miles of A roads either side.

Spent the journey in Eco mode doing about 65 with occasional blast up to exciting figures when I got bored.

All pretty pointless comparing mpg figures as road conditions will dictate fuel consumption more so than engine variety.

I live in an area that is very hilly and the climbs have a much greater negative effect on the MPG that the gains on the coast down again. By the time I reach a flat (motorway) my MPG figures are usually in the upper 20's. On a good run low 40's is good for me.

Unless we all drive the same route to work who cares how our MPG's compare.
