Resale/trade in value of M-Performance Parts

Do anyone have experience trading in or selling to places like Carmax with MPPK or M-performance parts that were installed after delivery? Just wondering how they realistically add resale value in those situations.

Better off parting them out IMO.

I know BMW does residualize them if you order with the car tho or have them installed at the dealer (I think)

Thanks. I think MPPK would be trickier since that can't be parted out?

To dealers besides BMW dealers, they're worth nothing.

I'll keep that in mind when I sell in the future. I guess lesson learned is that it's better to port install everything to have it included on the sticker?

+1 on what smithf32 said. And next time just get all the add-ons with port install. I mean yes they cost more than getbmwparts.com, but you can negotiate the parts' price down to very close to the price on getbmwparts.com. Plus you save time and money on installation and taking it off.

If something breaks or get damaged just buy reps and install it and then return the car at the end of lease. The dealers won't notice it lol.

Yeah. Otherwise even though they're BMW parts, most dealers will consider them aftermarket mods and won't add anything for them or will deduct for them.

When I traded my m sport 335 at the Porsche dealership, I had all the msport accessories inside and out and not only were they not gonna give me anything for them, they wanted all of it off. Even though they were ALL BMW products. I sold them all for a little over half what I gave for them.

It doesn't really matter where they're installed or whether it's a BMW dealer or some other dealer the add-ons add virtually no value in any case. The same is true for factory installed options. Only a handful of the most in demand, consumer expected options matter and it's not so much that they add value, but rather that if they're missing their absence will reduce value.

Bottom line is buy your aftermarket parts used and have someone else take the loss :-)

No added resale and don't be surprised if they deduct for them. People do not want to buy moded cars.

Since we're talking OEM parts it really doesn't make a difference. It still boils down to the preferences of the buyer. An MPE, M-Performance Brakes and MPPK especially won't negatively affect resale.
