That doesnt seem to bad.. Audio upgrade u mean HK system ya?

328 will be ~ 68k excluding dealer delivery metallic paint ~1k++ ,HK 1k++,
M Sport ~6-7k.

Seems like it's fair..

If it is floor stock, you could potentially get a few K off and ask em or throw in the Sunroof and 4year service free.

I thought to chime in since it's becoming a recurring question.

With German brands, I think you should aim for RRP (incl GST). i.e. get the dealer to pick up their delivery charge, registration, and transactional taxes such as stamp duty. I've been able to do this 3 times so far.

When I say RRP, I mean the base RRP plus cost of options plus GST. To calculate RRP yourself, use Redbook.

I consider taxes such as stamp duty as a levy that's small enough for the margins to absorb. However, taxes such as GST are a real big cost on a business considering the rate, so I don't try to negotiate away the GST (or part thereof).

That's my stance when you're spending under the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold (which is $73k for the 328i).

However, once you're over the LCT threshold I'm not sure how well you could get away with the dealer picking up the LCT. Since it's a federal tax and levied at a high rate of 33% for every dollar above the threshold, I personally think it's hard to get the dealer to eat the cost - particularly if they're already eating the cost of rego, plates (in my case Euro plates), and stamp duty.

In summary:-
Use Redbook to calculate RRP
< LCT - aim for RRP (incl GST)
> LCT - aim for RRP (incl GST + LCT)

Having said that, BMW are very hungry for sales as evidenced by their relentless campaigns. First they gave RRP (incl GST) as the drive away for the X5. Then they extended free servicing for an extra month last year and are now giving $4k on diesels !! Talk about needing to boost sales!

If you manage to get a dealer down to RRP +GST+LCT, I would walk away and go to another dealer to see if you can get closer to RRP + GST.

If you can't get under RRP + GST + LCT

Good hunting!

But isn't rrp+gst is the listed price of the car on the website? I.e. the 328i is 65990 inc gst and with m pack,,paint and HK which are added to a sum of 800, it should turn out like 74000, no?

Considering tra08's feedback, if you got this deal fairly easy, you should be able to walk to another dealer and get an even better deal.

If RRP is $74k then that is doing well already. But I defer to others who have clearly done better.

320d

Hi, I realise this thread predominantly refers to the 328 but could I get some advice on a reasonable price for the 320d in Perth. The desirable options for me would be the xenon lights, business navigation, and iPhone music integration.

Thanks.

No secret really just go to each dealer untill u get the cheapest possible price,

One time I was literally on my mob calling Sylvania BMW and told them am now with a sales guy who wont budge on $XX,XXX I need you to beat that and if you can I'll come to you right now. You should have seen the look on that sales guys face priceless.

When I got there I told them $xx,xxx included a sunroof which it never did. And I got it for $500 cheaper + sunroof.

Dont treat these guys that nice ok, they want to do that with you, not the other way around. G;luck

All good and well and in part I agree with you, however, keep in mind the after sales service - even during warranty period - when the dealership remembers how well you treated them during negotiations.

It does pay to have some dealership loyalty as the sales guy - at least mine - can help a great deal in securing very good prices for parts, which he has and securing a loan car at virtually no notice. Happened to me years ago with my E90. He went over and above and pulled a loan car for me from one of the other sales guys. Not many will do that for you.

My wiper issue has been fast tracked. A new set being expressed delivered from the factory, dealer has paint repairer (Mr Gloss - top BMW repairer in Melbourne) already booked and a loan car set aside for 2 or even 3 days as needed.

All this because my sales guy insisted that the head of service looks after me personally - and he is doing just that. I asked him "why are you replacing the wipers instead of repositioning it?" "Because there's a small mark on it and we have to ensure your car is in perfect condition & working order." Who am I to argue with such service.

Yes, I know that the dealer makes money from warranty services, but they are heavily regulated and scrutinised. Not all repairs are treated with such importance and priority.

Loyalty goes both ways and builds respect. Besides, no matter how low a price you buy your car for, the dealer will only ever sell it if they are making a proper profit on it.

And X was less than RRP incl GST? If so, this is gold and thx for the lesson!

Geez, I could have had xenons thrown in. For the record i had 4 year free servicing plus euro plates already thrown in.

I thought in this industry salespeople turnover is high. This my first time with a luxury marque, so it could be different.

having said that, my sales lady left over the xmas break and so did the pre delivery lady! I am now dealing with someone over the phone i havent even met.

The only time i can see this approach backfiring is if the person on the other end of the phone line says no... You may have wrecked the deal younhad just negotiated?

In hindsight, we all think that we could have done better on price or extras. Everyone has a buying strategy and we all think we have done the best ever deal, 'conning' the sales guys into a bidding war or whatever.

Do you (not 'you' personally CKau, 'you' collectively) not believe the sales guys know it? Of course they do. As I previously posted, they will not sell a BMW without their approved profit margin.

I thought I had sealed a good deal and I then afterwards thought I could have done better. Even if I had done better, I will always think I could have done better still.

In the end, you buy the car of your dreams. You have a great product to enjoy and BMW make their money so they can serve you again and again in service and future sales over the following decades.

I agree with David, I've bought several new bmws now through the same sales guy and he always looks after me on price, but more importantly on after sales service. I keep going back because of that.

Sorry bro I can't provide much insight here in terms of quotes, but I remember the price of the options for the 320's are much higher than the 328's. Maybe someone else who has ordered the 320's has the price breakdown

Thanks for that. If that's the case I wonder whether it would be worth spending more to get the 328 as I see it already has the business navigation included. I imagine it would also be a better drive. Thanks.

Try the BMW configurator and option up a 320d and compare it against a base 328i. I suspect once you get a 320d to 328i spec level the price difference may not be that great. Factor in an engine upgrade, and upgrades to other key components like brakes, then the 328i becomes even more attractive. I did the same type of comparison when comparing 335i vs 328i.

Isn't BMW doing a 4k discount for 320d and 320i right now?

When I was configuring for a F30 a few months ago, it was definitely not worth it to get a 320d or 320i over the 328i for me since leather, 18 inch alloys and folded exterior mirrors are a must for me.

Sorry to clarify 'RRP+GST' by that i mean the RRP of the base car (i.e. car is say $50,000 and 10% GST thats 55,000) not including the RRP of each option that i added.

Well the theory is that, if u option up a 320/id with goodies it becomes really close to a 328. And of course if u want a 2 sec quicker engine. List the options in terms of priority as a starting point

The 4k discount is for the diesel. With this new deal, the 320d does start to look better value than the 328i even if optioned up the same. I know cos i was considering the 320d before this offer came out.

Tough decision whether to go for 320d vs 328i.... But that topic is not for this thread in terms of comparing their driving characteristics. There are other threads that do that for you(as in blackfan, not jctg)

Dont get caught up in those '$4k discounts', makes no difference.. The more expensive the car, the more so called 'discounts' they can move... there is an embedded discount on every model. You push them hard enough and you will know how much they can bring down. the $4k discount just save you time and gives u a better starting point to negotiate.. thats all.
