There are many users in the UK who will choose the high mileage used cars, because they have been driven over distance. Cars used in cities and urban environments, with all the wear and tear that goes with stop-start, cold starts, etc., are often the really worn out motors, even with reasonable mileage.

Trade-in will of course reflect mileage, because the perception to many used car buyers... a car is worn out with mileage. Many just don't question the way a car is used.

I've bought into the high mileage used car. Bought one at 21 month old, with 42k miles. Car was like new, had been used to commute on the motorway, driver lived a couples of miles from the motorway and worked a couple of miles from it, the other end of the trip. So was driver only, rear of the car had never been used, neither had the trunk.

HighlandPete
My car is almost 5 years old and has 83,000 miles of which over 90 percent are highway miles. My maintenance interval from the CBM indicates 22,000 mile oil changes which I ignore and do every 7500 miles. I am still on my original brake pads and rotors and the monitor claims I still have over 20,000 more miles on both the front and back. The car has run flawlessly the entire time except for 2 blown brake lamp bulbs. I am keeping it until at least 150,000 miles. I have on order a 335i for the wife now. Anyway, my point is that I believe my car is in better shape than many cars with only 45000 to 50000 miles due to my care for the car and the type of driving I do.

By the way HighlandPete, it is good to see someone from your area here as my ancestors are from your area a few generations back. Actually, there is quite a bit of Scottish influence in this area.

What? Are you 100% sure you can't do that in Honda Accord?

I agree, you can do it all in honda. Why do you own a BMW then. You can do all in Honda.

No offense, but my most entertaining moments with the car don't involve coffee, highway and music.

I put on 20k a year.

I know people who have "beaters" for their commute. F-that. The commute is WHEN I want I nice car. I'd drive the beater on the weekends for running errands. On second thought, no I wouldn't.

you are putting easy miles on it - drive it until it becomes more expensive to fix and then trade it in. You spend enough time in it that you should enjoy your car!

You said it!

Every once in a while I'll drive my 2000 Subaru Legacy wagon with 169K miles to work. Every time I do, I remember why I bought my BMW! Life's too short to drive shit cars!

I agree. People don't understand this. I commute 30 miles each way to work and I'll be famed if Im gonna suffer in a poor driving car. I'll drive a stripped BMW and be very happy if I had to. Im looking at 20,000 miles per year and did a 20,000 mile/yr lease. I like the lower payment and being able to start fresh every couple of years.

I drive a lot too, but I got a plugin Prius for my work driving. Literally I save $500 on gas a month versus driving my 335i BMW.

That's the combo I recommend, 335 for fun!

Honestly, the BMW is too focused and high strung to enjoy in day to day traffic, it's better on open or curvy roads. The Prius for me is far better in traffic, easier to drive around stop and go. And it has the toys my BMW has too.

Plus, saves my smile for when I get back into the BMW and go.

how many people lie about that i wonder? i know my car is about 98% highway. i drive it to and from work 5 days a week. i live about less than 1 mile from everything i need other than work which is a 40 mile commute each way. still haven't gotten an oil change either after 15k.

I don't want the r/BMW guy with the M3 to see this...

I personally think you made the right call by getting a new 328i, I would never buy a used M3 for 43k especially with 35000+ miles when the new one is on the verge of coming out. Also, the new 328i performs as well as a E46 M3. You can easily sell in the third year of ownership while the car is still under warranty and get more money back as compared to selling right when the warranty expires. I'm thinking of selling in the third year and get whatever M-performance version of the 3-series comes out by then, hopefully diesel.
