Could be said for any manufacturer. This is the future. If anything, BMW is trying to play catch up with these changes while reconfiguring their portfolio. 3 doors are out, 5 door crossovers are in.

Stay a niche car maker and get passed around like a dirty hooker, Jaguar, Volvo etc.

BMW lost its way a while back with the F30 and FWD 1-Series. It's rumored the next 3-series will not be available with a manual transmission.

What I don't get is as far as automotive corporate size BMW ranks around 13th IIRC, yet it is considered one of the most, if not the most profitable car company in the world. But it has to team with Toyota on the next gen Z4/Z5 and with a Chinese company to develop the next Mini?

So do the executives of BMW actually just do drugs right at work, or is it still in their off hours?

Good luck stealing Mercedes's loyal customer base for luxury cars with this modernist woo-woo smoke blowing. Just reinforces the fact that BMW still has everything to prove in the luxury segments, versus its main rival who keeps building its lineup upon a solid foundation of abundant heritage of luxury models.
Not saying BMW shouldn't try, but as we have already seen they don't seem to care much about building and perpetuating their heritage, since they see no problem in overhauling their lineup within the space of only one generation in order to fulfill a short-term short-sighted vision.

I think the biggest thing BMW is losing is that they were fun cars to drive. Much more so than Audi and Mercedes. I don't find much fun in all these new non performance oriented cars they're coming up with. I drove the i8 and it was underwhelming. Driven back to back, the M2 was much more fun to drive.

These changes have politics all over it many government are pushing more and more emission control which sky rocket production and r&d cost. Then add that BMW is going to take a major hit in two of it biggest market UK due to brexit and USA due to possible tariffs hikes seems to be the driving force without them opennenly admitting it.... imho

Lame is not the word I would use for that video. Embarrassing, stupid and idiotic are the words I would choose.

As for BMW losing it's way, indeed that has happened. After being a faithful BMW buyer for a decade, I have returned to Mercedes-Benz. I went to the L.A. Auto Show to see if BMW had regained its mojo, and was looking forward to seeing the new 8 series or Z4. Instead I got to see the new iCar and the hideous X7 concept. Other than providing new paint jobs on some of its cars, BMW seems to have no interest in producing cars to compete with its closest rival. And that video is the capstone of its decline.

The only thing worse than that video is the bloviating, meaningless, prolix press releases that accompany every model, with 20,000 words explaining what the pictures show.

Good bye BMW. I hardly knew ye.
