Here is where i called you out. Ur statement is not accurate
Correct. My statement was not complete but I later elaborated for a given octane and +lbs increase you get MUCH more out of an ECU tune.

Soooooo... now that the thread jack is over. Anyone care to give real world numbers?
JB4 vs ECU Flash with full bolt on.
I'm coming from an N54 and I want an N55 but I can't find a 2013/2014 used 335i built with the options I want. There are however a shit ton of 320i/328i specced how I want them in this area.
Not trying to be lazy bit as mentioned in the OPs original post... the info on this topic is really scattered on this forum. Coming from e90post you would think a topic like this would be stickied. Instead we get a "Drag Strip Results"... lmao.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

What exactly are you looking for ? I would think 1/4 mile times are the most real world numbers you can get

I'm doing research right now on the differences in engine n20 vs n26 and 320i vs 328i. I guess my main concern is could I get a fully loaded 320i and tune it to the same max power as a 328i? Or more importantly get a fully loaded 328i and tune it to equal or greater numbers than a stock 335i?

Sorry if that's a basic question but I have literally just started researching this within the last couple hours or so. I've been so focused on the N55/335i I never even considered the 4cylinder engine.

I'm coming from a pretty much FBO N54 with JB4 G5 and I know that level of power isn't possible but I'm kind of over the MAX power chase. I do however want the car to have some get up and go for spirited driving. If I could get a fully loaded 328i and save $5000-$8000 over a similarly equipped 335i that would be awesome.

With the 320 max boost is 17 psi.
328 max boost 20 psi on a stock car or 21 psi on a car with catless downpipes and 93 octane.

I would not exceed these targets as the N20 / N26 have shown weakness in the past in handling extra boost

Forever fly -

I was in a similar situation as you.

Backstory for me - e36 m3 to a FBO e92 to an e46 m3 back to the same e92 and now in an n20 with jb4 only so stage 1 essentialy.
I go back and forth every week as to wether I want to hold on to the 328 or look for a 335. I enjoy the power in sport mode, 10 extra mpg's is great and I REALLY enjoy not having any limp modes, readjusting dp's, etc.

I do miss the power. I plan on an axle black and a dp as I think the exhaust note adds to the enjoyment and feeling of power.

I would never go FBO again but the option to reach sub 400 if I wanted to would be nice.

You will not be happy with the 320.

dude your trying to stack up a 2.0 single turbo 4cyl to a 3.0 twin turbo......two more cylinders and 1 more turbo. No fukin way are you going to come close in power unless you literally max out the 4cyl.

i dont think your going to get what you want out of this 4. Even if your pushed 25-27/28psi out of it.

get a n55 with a stage 1 turbo upgrage, catless DP, FMIC, whatever tune pleases you and some exhaust help + e85 or real race gas and you ll have 440rwhp & 500rwtq.

Right. That 4 additional PSI should make a world of difference so that eliminates the 320i. I don't plan on going FBO again, just a tune and intake. Definitely an exhaust but that's more for sound than power. I would assume through drivetrain loss on an 8 speed the 335i N55 is about 280ish WHP in its stock form. If I can tune a 328i to that same level I would be happy.

That's my issue as well. I don't need max power as I no longer drive like a maniac but it is nice to have that additional power when I have an open road in front of me. My N54 has been returned to stock for the most part and it definitely does what I want it to so I don't see myself needing more than that level of power. I also commute all over the state for work and an additional 10mpg is actually very attractive to me. (Gawd. I'm getting old! Lolz)

I'm not trying to have a FBO 328i match a FBO 335i. I know that's impossible without blowing up the engine. I'm trying to get a modified 328i to the power levels of a stock 335i. From my research the n26 can get close to 275whp/320tq at 20/21psi which is about the same as the N55 in stock form.

I'm not buying for another 2 months. Doing all my research now. The issue for me is I can't find a used 335i with everything I want... option wise. The area I live in everyone just gets the base and loads up on luxury features. I'm looking for a vehicle with M Sport, Track Package, Black Interior and Sport Seats with Navigation and Idrive. I settled on saying well hey... I can get a none M Sport and just buy the front and rear bumpers. But then it seems like only 1 out of every 100 on this area get the track package. Or they have stock seats. Or white on white interior. Lmfao... it's impossible. But the 328i I can find more guys with more options in total that I want. That's what's making this so hard.

So I'll keep looking and hope a unicorn appears soon. Either that or I'll increase my search range from 100 miles to 500 miles and fly out to Florida and drive the car home. I'm just trying to get a good understanding of both engines so if I HAVE to get a 328i at the end of the day I would know what I need to do.

This ^

Entirely possible and quite simple. (ECU tune hits those numbers with only 20-21psi) Thats exactly what I did. Making stock N55 power and also 200lbs lighter then big brother. That will translate to the 328/335. Don't underestimate the N20. She runs just fine with that power, never skips beat or feels over worked. Temps never stray even with this hot as hell summer here in LA.

Performance comes down to Power over Weight. So my 228 is faster than my buddies stock 135. That has two more cylinders and one more turbo

What about for the 2016 328i 6MT? I’d assume updated products have been released since this thread began.

The same tunes are compatible.

If you want a flash tune, get bootmod3.
If you want a piggyback, get a JB4
