Top speed of 335i without limiter
I can't find what the top end is of the N55 335i without speed limiter.
Anybody know?

The speedo reads roughly 160+ MPH when the speed limiter kicks in (BMWs read ~ 3% optimistic). It will run a bit faster given how it feels at this point, but it is getting weak. My guess is another 5-10 mph, tops.

Think you'll get about 170mph from it with the 6MT. Certainly in my old 330d 6MT on approaching 155mph, it still felt like it had plenty left. I think you may run out of revs before you run out of power (would be the case in the 330d) but you have another 2000rpm to play with in the 35i so maybe you run out of power just prior to running out of revs.
With the 8AT and some tuning, you could be pushing 180-190mph. Question then is; would you be comfortable to take a 155mph car and its tyres into figures you would round to 200? In the E90, I wouldn't be comfortable to go north of 150mph again, but in the F30, it feels much more stable and planted at high speed - so with some uprated >155mph tyres, I bet the F30 335i could comfortably haul ass! I know my 328i does without breaking a sweat!

You should know in states like Arizona when you do that shit it's felony speeding and you are put in cuffs on the spot and your car impounded.
My buddy is an attorney there and also in the BMW Z3/Z4 Club of Arizona and in club drives has witnessed cars pulled over at 100mph+ and the drivers arrested on the spot. If you don't have a passenger to drive it, the car is impounded. He got them off at a lesser charge but it ain't worth it in the end.

Sorry for not clarifying, that is the BMW electronically limited speeds depending on the tires your car comes with.
I'm not sure I've seen any real tests of how fast it goes stock without the limiter. Although, I have seen 'guesses' of around 170 based on RPM and how the car feels. |

It looked like the car has a little bit left but not much. So I agree with other posters here that probably 165 maybe 170 with a bit of a downhill or tailwind is probably where the car would top out. Pretty smoking for a 4 door sedan! Mine you my last family car was a Ford Taurus station wagon so I feel like I am driving a rocket ship in comparison. |

you guys might laugh but maybe we can try it out on something like Forza to find out? Not as exciting and there's no F30 model yet but that's just a matter of time -- and it sure beats being put in cuffs and or having a blow-out.

Top speed can = death if your tires aren't rated for the speed. I've seen several belts warp and the tire explode causing rollovers and wall hits past 150mph.
With a tune and tires, FBO E85 , 190 MPH tops, major wind drag and vibrations from 150 up. Expect seals and mechanical failures if done often as the parts were not balanced or made for those speeds long term. |
