Lightbulb BMW Assist & Lower Insurance Rates?

Wondering if anyone has experience with BMW Assist and a lower insurance premium? Since, BMW can track your car via GPS, it essentially acts in a similar fashion to the LoJack system. I'm hoping this will lead to lower insurance rates, especially since I'm in NYC (which is ridiculously expensive).

On a side note, has anyone used BMW Performance Insurance (provided by Liberty Mutual)? Are their rates better than the usual (Geico/Nationwide/AllState, etc.)?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, there are so many factors to insurance ratings....no one else can really advise you in this regard. Factors such as age, sex, driving record, elected coverages, location, driving habits, etc will drastically change the quote. I would suggest just going online and getting quotes for yourself to get an apples-to-apples comparison.

For example, when I was in NC, State Farm was much cheaper by far. Moving to OH, GEICO's rates were lower by almost half. It's amazing how it varies from place to place.

Thank you, although I wasn't really referring to those factors, I meant more in terms of the BMW Assist, if it would be a factor in lowering of an insurance premium.

In any case, I'll check out the BMW Performance Insurance and see what kind of pricing they'll give. Otherwise, I'll go to my local insurance company (Nationwide), we've been with them forever, with my father and then myself.

Sorry, I meant to include some information regarding BMW Assist as well, but got sidetracked on your side note

Each insurance carrier manages their discounts in a different way. I've found that some will provide a blanket discount for safety devices, while others will rank your vehicle in a category (1 - SRS and 4 - LoJack, etc). Sometimes, carriers will not offer additional discounts based upon what is already being discounted. I know, a lot of generalizations there. The bottom line, however, is just that. What are you paying at the end of the month for the same coverage. Liberty Mutual might give you a 5% discount for having a BMW, and then additional discounts on top of that for BMW Assist, but if the rate was higher from the beginning, I'm not sure that it matters. The best method is just to shop around and compare.

Great, seems as though there may be a slight savings, definitely happy about that. And to shopping around for insurance, yeah, always the best thing to do.

Thanks for the feedback.
