2013 335i Rattle sound during light acceleration and lumpy idle

Only had my new 335 for a week and already having issues. The other day at a stoplight, my idle starting going up and down erratically. On top of that, under light acceleration, there is this rattle/ticking coming from the dash area. I can't pinpoint exactly where it's coming from but it is definitely throttle related. Under light throttle, it sounds like someone is fanning a deck of cards if that makes sense. I wasn't expecting this from a brand new car.

sounds like a vacuum hose lightly popped off under the hood, which would explain a rattle (if it's loose), and erratic idle...did you floor it hardcore over bumpy roads?

To be honest i've been driving it rather easily so i'm not sure what could have happened. I'll check under the hood to see if i see anything odd. I knew i should have kept my 06' 330i.

Are u going to change your sn to OnceBMW? Jk

Go to the dealer. It's it still doing it or is it a one off type of event?

Same thing happened to me on my 335 and I took it it. Stored faults, they reprogrammed my dme and problem gone. No biggie. Go to the dealer that's what they're there for

I have a rattle too. Same place. Doesn't bother me much though.

I'm going to bring it in when I have 3+ issues for them to look at all at once. Already have 2 (reprogram Auto Start/Stop & Rattle behind dash), waiting for one or two more.

Is the rattle behind the dash dependent on throttle position?

Erratic idle means setup a service appointment.

Something like that is one of those things that just happens.
My 335i Msport had no heat when I wanted to use it for the first time.
Only one other person on here had a similar problem. His turned out to be a bad water valve. Mine turned out to be corrupted software that resulted by the tech turning ASS to "last position used".
It took BMW 2 days to figure it out.

They will fix your car, just give them a chance. Yes, it sucks to have a problem with a new car, but it does happen. Remain calm and get a loaner while they work on your car.

So I located the source of the rattle. It is the shift knob. Though it sounds like its comming from the dash, it's def the shift knob. The vibrations from letting the car rev cause the knob to rattle and buzz. If I pull up on the shifter the noise goes away. The new shift knobs that BMW has appear to be sewn to the boot so it looks like they don't just pull off anymore. There hAs to be something loose in there.

Hi guys,

I recently received my replacement 335i M Sport and it has exactly the same vibration/ rattle which sounds like its comming from behind the dash!! It happens between 2000rpm and 3000 rpm at low speeds when the engine is warm. Unbelievable!

This is exactly the condition under which anything loose in the engine bay will rattle. There seems to be resonance at 2500 rpm. I've seen fixes here involving reseating the radiator, adjusting the heat shielding, replacing the AC Compressor, tightening a bracket in the dash board, and securing windshield cowling.

Good luck in tracking down the source of yours!

The AC is always off these days and turning it on and off doesn't make a difference so that is out atleast lol. Will have to see the other stuff.
