I just saw on tv a news special called "BMW: A Driving Obsession." They allowed a reporter into the BMW plant and were discussing how much intricate detail goes into making the car such as design, comfort, and sound frequency for alarms in the car. The sounds of the alarms segment stood out to me because the designer said he'd listen to the same sounds nearly 2000 times a day to get that perfect pitch because repeated sounds in the car that could annoy customers is a major concern. I'm thinking, all this time and detail spent on how alarms sound in the car but no one noticed or cared to notice this annoying chirp? What gives?

Does anyone have any suggestion for curing a rattling glove box door. It seems only to rattle when the car is cold. After 20 minutes it goes away, but it is really annoying that a car with 50 miles rattles.

I'd assume it's rattling between the door and the physical closure?

I'd get some foam tape and nicely lay it around the perimeter where the glove box door meets the physical closure.

So the squeak has somehow subsided substantially on its own, but a subtle low grade buzz-rattle has replaced it in the same area...I suspect there is a little piece of plastic that was rubbing, and driving to and from NJ this past weekend over the horrible expansion joints on the Tappan Zee probably freed the piece...

Unsure what others have done with this issue at the dealer, but keeping the thread uptodate in case others are having this problem.
I'm taking it on Friday for them to look at it...

UPDATE: BMW couldn't find a SIB, but found that there was a lot of squeaking when the unit was taken out to diagnose the issue. Felt lining was liberally applied, squeaking is finally GONE.

There is a very light rattle over bumps, but I suspect that'll quiet down over time now that things will jostle in to place. I hope. Just wanted to let you guys know what to tell them to do...and bring a video of it in to you SA so they can diagnose easier than driving around and hoping it'll do it.

Where was it coming from? I still can't tell where mine is coming from. Seems to come and go depending on how cold it is.

damn, you have my sympathies. You know its something small and stupid that is loose. Looks like you need it all ripped out and slowly put back together.

My dealer finally tacked down a rattle/squeak which was apparent at roughly 2,500 RPM under load. It was the heater box. A bother to get to and does require taking a good deal of the interior apart.

it was coming from the Nav/Dash area...replacing the screen didn't do anything. but SA said it was squeaking when taking it out, so unsure what it is...

The noise had been there since the car's arrival in the US, but I was not yet ready to turn it in to the dealer to fix the problem. Today, while cleaning the interior, I noticed that the OBD port and a plastic panel sit just above the driver's footrest. These two parts appear to rub together or vibrate when driving over rough roads and cause the rattle. So, I placed a small piece to insulation between the top of the footrest and the plastic panel, lo and behold, problem solved. Hope this helps!

Where did you get the insulation from? Sorry basic question but will impact a lot of this...

Ultimately, I used a black piece of door/window weather stripping tape from Home Depot. In the photo (to highlight the problem area), I wedged a piece of felt padding (the kind you stick to the bottom of furniture to protect wood floors) in between the top of footrest and the plastic panel. You just need something (anything) to separate the OBD panel from rattling against the top of the footrest.

One full day of driving and the rattle is officially gone. This fixed my issue, but this solution obviously may not solve rattles that others have encountered. Good place to start though.

Yep.. I noticed my "ticking" when the cabin warms up. I'm now over my 20k km mark, and the dealer told me it'll be tough to get them to look at rattles anymore.

I give up as well.

WTF?? After 20k it's STILL under warranty? My SA has been good to me, taking it back in...it's unacceptable for such an $$ car to have these minor issues/noises.
