Very good news.

I also was notified Friday my BMW power pack (I've got a 2012) is in. It'll be installed Wed. Can't wait. Hopefully the DP gets here shortly and I can give a combined review along with video.

You sure the DP will work with the PPK?

Might throw a cel...post here and let us know.

Throwing a CEL will have nothing to do with PPK or other normal mods as far as I know. Chances are that it eventually will unless you have a mod that deletes the code.

There is a smaller chance (perhaps slightly) that you won't get one with a HFC, but I've heard those are popping up too. Your car is basically telling you the cat isn't working as well as it's supposed to stock. Which is obvious and the whole point to get more flow.

As far as 'will it work'? Well yea, it will work, it's giving you a freer flowing exhaust, it doesnt care that you turned up the boost. In fact, it allows you to turn up the boost more (safely anyway).

My early 2012 build F30 finally had it's BMW M-PPK installed last Wed at the dealer. Then on Sunday it got a Challenge DP (in my garage).

Because everything happened so close, I didn't have a lot of comparison time. I maybe put 30 miles on the car between the upgrades. I can say the Sport Displays were updated from a max range of 320/320 to 400/400 like others have stated. They pegged at 320/320 after the MPPK; and immediately after the DP install I spotted them ranging more towards 350hp. Further testing at WOT is def necessary, and I should try to hook up my GoPro to safely verify really. I also want to use it to get some exhaust audio. I can hear the cackle - lightly - in pretty much any gear off-throttle no matter if it's 5000 or 2500 rpms.
Overall, there's not a lot of increased sound inside or outside the cabin. There's probably 10% more when in the throttle, maybe more but nothing that's gonna turn heads. I've had cars in the past with full catless exhaust, so that's my measuring point! RPM's on this awesome 8sp trans make a difference too.

More to come. Hopefully audio/video whenever I have time.

Awesome... this sounds like a great combo. I am planning to do the same (along with the MPE)

I've never heard of a cop actually inspecting a car to the detail of cat or not. Are you saying after this the car is throwing out clouds of black smoke or that its pegging us fornoise violations?

Who are you referring to in regard to your comment?

Even catless, you shouldn't see smoke unless something is terribly wrong with your engine as far as I know. Just a slight sweet smell.

A DP should make the exhaust a bit louder/throatier, but nothing crazy. Not even as much as a loud aftermarket exhaust.

IMO the biggest concern people would have is emissions inspections and possible check engine lights. You can get around the CEL with a tune that auto clears it, but not much you can do about emissions if they really get in there and test it.

In the absence of a tune that auto-deletes CEL codes, is there another way to reset them on an as-needed basis? If the HFC downpipe might just cause them on rare occasion, than I'd still be interested in it if there's some sort of easy solution to just plug something into the OBDII and delete when necessary.

I know they've had them for previous models, but not sure about the F30. You could probably get a code reader, similar to what comes with flash tunes, that would do the trick. But then again, they're not cheap and you'd get far more bang for your buck buying a JB4 that you can use to boost engine output and read/delete codes.

Yes. Goto autozone and buy a code puller/reader. I did that years ago when I started modifying cars and it's worked on every vehicle I tried. I tossed the booklet, I just punch the # into the internet and it tells me what's up. It can also delete.

I think I paid like $70 back in 2007 or so. Looks like they are much fancier nowadays and in color! Much safer and easier than unplugging the battery to clear imo.

fwiw; I've been getting a P0030 code with my M-PPK & DP combo. I've cleared it twice but it's coming back thus far.

Cool - thanks!
This model seems like it covers all the bases, and is only $35 shipped...
Are there any other specific models that anyone can recommend?

Before I got the JB stage 2, I used the Torque app on my phone. The app was like $2 and I had to buy a obdII bluetooth dongle for like $20ish.

Catted or Cattless DP?

I think Challenge has been saying the HFC DPs haven't been throwing the CEL, so just wondering.

I think the tune will auto clear that particular code, but yea if you don't care for a tune and can find a cheap way to clear the annoying light then I guess that is the way to go (unless it pops up all the time, then it could be an annoyance)

So far, stock ecu cars, with our HFC downpipe have not been throwing CEL's. Nathans car above is the first with the power pack ecu flash etc that has run our HFC. Likely the ECU has changed some setting for the o2 sensor sensitivity

We are working with Nathan to see if maybe a spacer can fix the CEL on the power pack ecu flash

Mike - thanks for the tip on the Torque app...I found it in the Android Play store too. Seems like a better way to go than a dedicated hardware unit (cheaper and more features : ) Do you recommend any particular Bluetooth dongle?

tdizz - yeah, I'm not interested in anything that would throw a cel all the time, or even often. It seems like the hfc downpipe only throws them one in a while, if at all, so that seems livable.
I am going with the mppk, so I probably wouldn't be interested in other aftermarket tunes anytime soon.

Challenge - seems like you guys are on point with standing by your product and working to ensure the best experience for your customers...this is why I plan to buy from you. Thanks.

I just bought a cheap blue one on eBay or amazon for $20ish and its worked great. What's really nice is you can log runs and you can also plug it in to any car. Cool app for so cheap. Definitely opt to pay the $2-$5 for the real app rather than the free version....

I've bought a couple of things from challenge and they've always been great. I sometimes wish I woulda went catless but I love my hfc dp so it's all good!
