RE: 435 add M sport brakes
Hey guys, new to the forum and just took delivery of my M Sport 435 black on black.
I didnt order the 2NH option and after seeing the Blue Calipers they look great! What will need to be replaced on my 435 with M sport package in order to have the blue M sport calipers installed on my car? Thanks in advance for any help. |

Yes they are the same for cars with m Sport brake below 328i.
That's why my next mod (after the complete M Sport retrofit) will be to look for rear M Sport or M Performance calipers. Don't want to change the entire brake setup since I'd like to keep my 17" winter set.

Great 3D!
Only one question: as far as I know, the pads of the M brakes system has got different product code from the standard system, do you agree?

Dont' know.
What I've seen on other threads is that they are the same size, don't know if the pads are exactly the same or not.

If the code product is different they can hardly be the same...

Like this never happened with BMW... Or any car manufacturer.
But you're right, the M Sport (650$ brake kit option) pads do create more brake dust that the regular ones.

Blast from the past. I've been away from the forums for a bit, so forgive me if this has been covered.
I think the OP needs to make an update for M-sport (328i possible others) model cars. I'm selling my old M-sport brakes since I upgraded to M-performance after I bought the car. In doing so I started looking up the part numbers and have the following observations via realoem. This is for 328's mind you. 335's are a whole different story. - M-Sport model cars w/o m-sport brake option have different front rotors, calipers, carriers, pads, and debris covers - Non-msport model cars w/o m-sport brake option (i.e. base) have 312MM as the listed rotor width - M-Sport model cars w/o M-sport brake option don't have a listed diameter. At least on realoem (P/N 34116792221). - I measured my M-Sport (non-msport brake) rotors P/N 34116792221 sitting in the garage. They are 330MM So, if I read the OP correctly it said all non-msport brake optioned cars have 330MM rotors. These questions then come to mind Where does the 312MM rotors come into play? Typo? If it is a typo and all but msport brakes have 330MM rotors, then why the different calipers, etc? Based on what I'm seeing, if you have an M-Sport model car you get more than just an upgraded pad compound in the front. Thoughts?

Thanks ronin951
You're right the 330mm is wrong. Don't remember where I got that Diameter info from. I checked in the BMW parts cataloge again and made some changes to the possible original Setups. Unfortunatelly BMW does not list the Diameters for all the different part numbers. As you wrote, size of 34116792221 is not listed in the cataloge Thanks for your information. Just post here if you find more to be corrected. I'll be happy to change the OP! |

Can someone with a 428i GC with M Sport Brakes confirm if their front rotors are 340mm or 370mm? I'm getting conflicting information from forums and various parts catalogs online.

420i/d GC as other 20i/d models equipped with SA2NH have 340mm in Front. Therefore 428i with SA2NH Option (or M Performance Brakes) will need 18'' wheels. |

I did some more searching and it seems the difference is European vs. USA market. In the European market, 370mm front rotor are on 328i/428i models with M Sport Brakes but in the USA market, 340mm front rotor are on 328i/428i models with M Sport Brakes. I got this info by comparing 428i Europe spec vs USA spec realoem.com below Europe spec 428i: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...49&hg=34&fg=07 USA spec 428i: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...49&hg=34&fg=07 Now I have no idea where the Canadian market lies... I guess I'll find out once I get my car in a few weeks when I finally get my car... |

Hi Good Point! I will correct that in my OT. Looks like US Market is different from Europe. Those brake variants drive me nuts. Thanks for your input! Hope, you get the size you want :-) |

I'm probably worrying too much about it just because of specs though... maybe there isn't much difference in performance between the two? A plus is the rotors will be 4 lbs lighter lol |

If a car has 340mm front Rotors, the inital brake behavior (brake distance) is the same as with the 370mm. I see the advantage of the 370mm dimpled/slotted disc in heavy use (degasing if Brakes are very hot) and in wet conditions (removing water/dirt) compared to non dimpled/slotted. Anyway you could upgrade the 340mm plain Surface rotors to 340mm dimpled/slotted if you see yourself driving in above situations or for optical effect. For normal street use (where 80% of time Brakes are cold) a flat rotor surface gives more square inches to the brake pad then a dimpled/slotted rotor. In these cold conditions flat surface rotors normally have better brake distance results. |
