You got lucky!

I've had two batteries replaced under BTB warranty before; once with Nissan and the other Cadillac. Good to know one "may" have a shot with BMW too.

I was there yesterday for brake service. Battery ain't covered. Luckily it's still putting out good power so I've got some time.

Yeah the whole battery replacement thing is a grey area. Glad you didn't have to pay $400 if you can get it done under warranty.

Yep, just called our local dealer to book an oil change and asked just for kicks. Definitely is a grey area there as I got a pretty quick NO.

Definitely seems to vary by dealer as I’ve had multiple battery replacements under warranty across several different BMWs. Makes you wonder though - the dealer is reimbursed by BMW for warranty work, so why wouldn’t they do the replacement if it’s covered?

MB also covered a battery replacement for us once, too.

PepBoys has the Bosch battery for $166, which is a decent price. I contactd Steve at Bimmercode and asked when battery registration will be available in the Bimmercode app, and he said 2-4 weeks. I'm gonna wait that out, as Carly app makes you buy their own OBD adapter plus the app, and that adapter is at least $80.

My dealer also replaced my battery after dropping it off for service. I didn't have any symptoms but they tested it and said it was on its way out. I'm not sure if it was covered by the maintenance or warranty though.

Maybe they can make more charging the customer full retail than the amount BMWNA reimburses under warranty or maintenance contract. So some unscrupulous dealers would rather charge you and say it's not covered under various fine print clauses like if you didn't drive enough to keep it charged or didn't use a maintainer, etc. of course you could just go somewhere else if they do that then they'll say "let me double check if it's covered...oh turns out it is after all" so they can at least get money from BMW rather than losing out entirely.
