Adaptive headlights

Biggest waste of money option out there? The 340 lights are already full LED anyway, the benefit from this $900 option seem very little. At least in my limited opinion. But it's pretty bright where I drive most of the time at night

I have xenons and adaptive lights and like them, although surprisingly they aren't as good as the adaptive headlights in my GTI.

Also if you get the lighting package, it comes with more than just adaptive headlights, no?

I thought it was just adaptive headlights, and auto hi beam...

If I knew more when I ordered, I would have skipped it. Unless I'm wrong...

I had the adaptive xenons on my e91. You notice the difference more after not having them.

Could care less. I mainly drive in the city so it's lit anyways. Maybe others who drive frequently in the boonies see more benefit.

I love the adaptive. It comes with auto high beams which work faster then I can turn off/on against on coming traffic. One better I have anti dazzle activated now and it's amazing.

I wanted to get them but was advised otherwise by my sales rep. He said it wouldn't be worth the extra bucks.

I thought anti-dazzle was implemented on the 340 with adaptive in 2016.

You need to have adaptive Xenon or LED. And have it coded. What it is: you can drive with your high beams on without blinding oncoming traffic. Check it out on youtube. Coolest feature on the car.

You need to have it coded, not activated from the factory.

There is a mistaken notion that just coding gives you anti-dazzle.

That in itself does cause shifting of headlights, but blinds opposing traffic with the headlights as the shutter is not in the American part....thus it's just as bad as putting Xenons HID in a Halogen Casing.

There is Avery detailed thread in this is coding and a very incorrect thread on bimmerforums where people are coding without the proper parts.

My 2016 340i with LED adaptive headlights, coded
Anti dazzle, works. Never once has someone flashed me. It's so cool my wife notices it.
If your car has adaptive, get it coded.

Adaptive can have variable light distribution.
Adaptive LED (not Xenon) can have NGHB.

You can believe what you want with your "dancing lights", but facts triumph speculation on what your lights are actually doing.

For LEDs and Anti-Dazzle the car needs option S552A, not S5A2A

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...71#63117419634

The appropriate BMW Parts WITH Lens Shutters are

Headlight, LED, AHL, left Part #63117419627

Headlight, LED, AHL, right Part #63117419628

As you can see, this part is only available for use in Europe as the EU allows Ant-Dazzle

Europe F/30

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...27&series=F30N

Europe F/31

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...27&series=F31N

There is another part for U.K. with right hand drive, but will not post those numbers to focus on EU v USA v difference.

If you examine the same part for the USA Version WITHOUT the Lens Shutter

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=63_1671

The appropriate BMW Parts WITHOUT Shutters are

Headlight, LED, AHL, left Part #63117419621

Headlight, LED, AHL, right Part #63117419622

Again, USA / No Lens Shutter

USA/ F30

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...21&series=F30N

USA/F31

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...21&series=F31N

For Xenon numbers, check the parts numbers in the Coding Section where we have been discussing this for 3 1/2 years now.

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=884103

The people that have purchased the EU parts and have them on hand/installed on cars know what they are talking about in this instance.

You can code all you want, but Anti-Dazzle will NOT work CORRECTLY without the Lens shutters that the USA Version DOES NOT have. If you can find USA Part Numbers that match Europe Parts Numbers, you can code and it will work properly.

Bottom line. Just like turning on ASD and thinking your engine sounds better and is more powerful, unless you have the actual physical parts, you are only fooling yourself.

I live in Germany but my 340i is US Spec.(I'm US mil) So looks like I need to purchase some parts at ridiculous prices. That sucks as I was hoping to get the anti-dazzle feature by just coding. Thanks for posting the info/part numbers though.

Might want to look for OEM parts made by Hella or ZKW without the BMW Sticker on the part as these Companies make the part for BMW.

You could also shop used market.

Notice Hella logo on BMW Sticker on the EU LED Headlights.

I hired someone to code it along with other tweaks. Regardless what the other forum contributors may say the system works on my US car. Maybe the Euro lights have flaps etc and is more advanced, but you will be more then satisfied.

Maybe the the European system is more advanced but.... with coding my lights work really well. Really well. No need to spend thousands on the upgrade to Euro lights, that would be foolish.

You don't need to spend thousands to upgrade. If you have adaptive, it can be coded. It may not be as advanced as Euro lights, but It works , and it works really well. Save your money on hardware. FYI. My window sticker says: Anti Dazzle decoded. What we have in the US is good enough for me. You'll be sending me a thank you. And thank you for your service!
