Drivers door keeps opening.

First time this happened I was going along a country lane looking for somewhere to stop, saw a little gravel layby so pulled in and as I stopped the drivers door opened. At first I thought it was some kind of safety feature. I had gone from 50mph to suddenly slowing down onto gravel/loose surface so the car may of thought it was an emergency.

Now today, phone rings but when I answered nobody was there. So as I put the phone down using the steerring wheel button the door pops open?? Surely that's not right?? I was driving along steadily in traffic at 25mph, hadnt breaked or anything.

do I need to get it into the dealer or is there a reason for it that I'm missing?

Strange! I know as a safety feature, the 3 Series will automatically stop (abruptly) if you open the door while the car is moving (at least at slow speeds), but the door should not open on its own. Sounds like an electrical malfunction somewhere. I'd get it to the dealer ASAP.

Christine for sure... The drivers door should never open without you pulling the lever even in a crash. You need to have the door lock checked immediately. that behavior is not safe.

Looks like it's going back in. It needs the rear doors re-doing anyway for that damn rattling/squeeking.
What are BMW like for servicing? Car is telling me service is due in 1400 miles and it seems sensible to have it all done at once

They should perform service as long as the indicator is within 2k miles, IIRC.

Is the door opening or unlocking?

It's opening so it's on the catch. how it would be if you didn't close the door properly

Not if your seatbelt is on.

Sounds like a faulty sensor, I'd get it checked out without delay. I suspect they'll replace the entire lock mechanism if under warranty. Happened to my E61 tailgate window, which opened when driving

It's not a bug, it's a feature.
