Summer performance vs a/s in wet weather
Yes, I know all seasons are a compromise all around, tries to be all things in all weather. My question is generally, in rain or on wet roads, are summer performance tires better than all season tires? I ask as I've generally used all seasons in the summer and then switched to snow tires in the winter. This year was my 1st experience with summer performance that came stock on my '14 320i (staggared 18's). And in July when I replaced the factory Dunlop a/s on my MB ML350 w/ 4Matic, I went w/ a 19" summer performance tire since I already had Blizzak DM-V1's on a set of 18" wheels. The biggest thing I'm noticing is on the highway when in the far right or left lanes, in the past when I saw puddles of water, I would try to steer around them or brace in anticipation of slight hydroplaning. On both vehicles, granted all tires are new, there has been no hydroplaning. Even cornering on wet roads feels more sure footed. So I'm wondering if it's the specific tires I'm running or the class of tires as a whole.
