Can you add sport auto trans to existing car?
I have read that the faster shift times, i.e. the only real benefit to the sport auto trans, is just firmware. If I don't care about the paddle shifters, is it possible to just add this feature to an existing vehicle. I know it sounds very far fetched and dumb, so no harassment, I am just wondering. I have found a new 335xi that meets every single requirement of mine except sport auto trans and it would be the best new ever to know I could have it.

Yes, it is possible to do this by coding.
I don't have the exact thread handy but you'll find it if you search the DIY/Coding forum. Having coded this myself, don't have high expectations though. The difference is barely noticeable. |

I think that is because you have to activate it with the sport button which would also have to be added and coded.

There is no extra button and it is also not controlled from the factory mode toggle switch but the shifter itself. Moving the shifter to the left while in drive is what activates SAT. |

As a follow up to this, if anyone is interested, a dealer won't do this for you. They claim they can't do it without an official BMW "kit", otherwise the warranty would be voided.
