Where to next?

Hi Guys,

I'm 1 year into owning my 335d and 50% through my BMW HP agreement. This time next year she'll be completely owned and I'll then look to part ways as I'll need the capital for an extension and quite fancy moving into a PCP.

It's annoying as I did want to add a few more mods (to date I've just added OEM black grills and OEM spoiler) e.g. audio upgrade from base stereo, ACS springs & spacers and the side skirt extensions.

Given I've 12 months left I don't think I'll do any as it won't be a sensible investment etc - which is a shame as I'll perhaps never feel/see/hear the cars max potential IMO

I'm already thinking what to get after the 335d. But what does one move onto *from here...?

Likes of my 3er:
Interior (latest iDrive screen n controller)
Power (obviously) - can see how more *would be better though!
Economy
Size (like the 4 doors)
Comfort
Looks (few tweaks could be added)
The fact I've coded it

Dislikes:
The clatter of a diesel (even tho I've coded it to internally sound like the M3)
XDrive height (can be solved...)
Nothing else really

Wants:
Decent sound from the engine/exhaust (inside and out)
Premium Audio
HUD would be cool*

Nice to haves:
360 cameras*
Air cooled seats

So...

M3 would be the dream, but that's not
an option! ££££ to buy and run!

340i - would feel like I've got the same car but addressing all the niggles I currently have - wife's against this option though!

4 series coupe (440i or 440d) - but I'd loose doors and think the GC is a touch tooooooo long!

X5 - this could be interesting although the wife does have a Evoque so two 4x4's might not be ideal

Others:

Merc - guessing C class would be logical option...
Audi A5, always liked these so wondering if there's a refresh coming. Just checked the 2017 model and it looks good!!
VW - had a MK6 GTI before the BM and very interested in the 2018 model - but that may be a little too far off...
Range Rover Sport - yes pls... But ££££

I know I want good power with decent economy (roughly 12-15k miles a year)
with a quality interior and sexy exterior looks. Not a tough ask really but can't quite work out what .next is gonna be!

The 335d was a easy and logical choice!*

Cheers

Wag

I'm considering an Alfa Giulia or Maserati Ghibli. Both available in diesels if that's what you like.

440i - obviously!

Ticks all you comfort blanket boxes of things you like - and it's not "just like your old one"

Gets rid of the diesel clatter, gives you the sound inside and out.

4 doors is soooo last year

What's your economy like mate? On any average tank, how many miles?

Thinking this could be the one!

For me it would be hard to see past a 440 GC...

I test drove be before ordering a Touring, not pram friendly unfortunately. But, it felt no bigger than my F30. I think the length my be an optical illusion. The 3GT is the stretched one as far as I know.

Also, it was a nice place to be in terms of diving, performance and especially acoustic engagement compared to my 330d. My 330d is sDrive, but the nose on the 440i felt lighter and more eager to turn in.

OBC said 34mpg for my 70 mile test drive... Mixed driving and a play with a Golf R.

Only done around 2000 miles so far but it's showing 32.5 on the obc. Brim to brim average is 30.5.

Compare that to my 435d which showed around 38.5 on the obc (never did brim to brim) and it's pretty good.

You will see high 30's to low 40's on a run easily but low 20's if you hoon it everywhere.

On average, my fuel light comes on at around 350 miles and I fill it (57L) at around 385

Once nearly did 400 on a tank .......

The beauty of this engine is that it drives like a diesel low down so you can be lazy with it (and get reasonable economy) - then when it's playtime it's a different beast

Go drive one and I'll bet you love it

.

Currently run an F15 X5 and a 435i GC. so model if not variant wise two of your mentions.

X5 is great all rounder. Performs family duties. We are on a uk holiday right now covering some 1000 miles taking in Center parcs and then onto Devon and its moved the 4 of us and a ridiculous amount of luggage around with consummate ease. If you already own an suv car and don't need the X5 for similar duties then if it's mostly for your daily driver and commute vehicle then it's a big car for one person.

For work duties that frequently involve train station car parks, random and variable client car parks, multi storey car parks etc my daily driver is the GC. Wife and kids have X5. I find 4GC great daily driver. Not sure why you think too long? Works perfectly for me letting me use it in car parks id not go near in the X5, plus it's just big enough that it makes long solo work journeys up and down the uk motorway network a relative stress free exercise. I did consider a macan as my daily driver but I didn't like or see need to have two SUV type cars on drive. Fancied the second car and my daily being something more coupe like.

The 3 series is 4,633mm long, 2,031mm wide and 1,429mm high.

The 4 Coupe is 4,638mm long, 2,017mm wide and 1,377mm (GC is 1,389mm) high.

So, the 4 and 4GC are both 5mm longer than the 3. The 4 is okay, but the GC which is identical in length is too long

a 4 GC is too long, but an X5, which is 253mm (or 10") longer than the 335d is okay.

£1233 as I just wanted to pay it off asap.

Not wanting the pcp or whatever I go for next to be more than £600 per month.

Also £0 down payment would be nice too..:

Not a bad idea tbh but i do like the thought on getting into something new again.

Issue will be the £ I've lost in 2 years. Paid £28.5k for the 335d with 19k on the clock and in a years time it'll probably have done around the 42k mark so guessing it'll fetch low to mid £20k's....?

I expect a 4x4 to be big in both length, width and ride height and that's fine.

Coming from a GTI to the F30 I just felt the GC seemed too long.

Your stats have nailed it for me. So thanks ??

I'm going to test out the GC
