F82 LED Headlights

Apologies if this isn’t meant for this particular forum I’m pretty new on here!

I’ve recently picked up a brand new 2018 M4 CP. I’m pretty impressed with the standard LED headlights, I’d been reading in here that many 3 and 4 series owners were pretty dismissive of them. However looking at my headlights they look different than those on the non M, 3 and 4 series , are they different units? Just to confirm I don’t have the adaptive headlights.

I had a 640d Gran Coupe previously with standard Xenons and the M4 headlights are much better!!

Thanks

Welcome and nice car! Any pics?

Are you sure your not comparing the pre lci headlights? These are more traditional halos where the 3 and 4 series lci have kind of broken rings for want of a better phrase!

Mine are more like the bottom ones in that picture comparison, they obviously haven’t changed the non adaptive M4 headlights then,

Just checked and apparently my car was built late November 2017?? Not sure where it’s been between then and being delivered to the dealer the last week of February 2018?? And it still had all the protective coverings inside and out bonnet covered in white plastic, roof too and all the inside was covered in plastic because I went to the dealership the day it was delivered!

Lci 4 series non adaptives are normal rings, adaptives have the hexagonal shaped ones.

I thought the led lights were good, till driving at night in rain... then realised previous xenons have been much better!

If memory serves me correctly you can do it through the app as an attachment. Actually trying to add it as an image always failed for me... I might be wrong though!

I agree. Had Xenons on my 440i and they were far better than the current non adaptive LED's on my M4.

The LED's are certainly brighter close range but do not have the "throw" like the xenon

Only just over a week ago I picked her up but she definitely isn’t as clean as that now, but she’s having a full Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra Detail on Thursday, should only take a few days !!

These are the two headlights available on M4 LCI, which are same as 4 series LCI. 3 series both options are reflector headlights similar to the adaptive 4 series ones (but headlights & DRL’s are slightly different shape.

I prefer the DRL’s of the adaptives, but I prefer the projector lenses of the non adaptives compared to the reflectors on the adaptives which makes them look like halogens!

I agree, I like the DRL on adaptive but not the actual full headlights, each to their own!!

This is quite confusing.
So, to spec or not to spec, that is the question...

Adaptives look better to everyone else, but when you are driving, the non-adaptive std 4 series LEDs are better??

I’m afraid I cannot comment on that but I would suspect the adaptive are a better headlight. I was merely commenting I like the look of the standard led on my M4 CP when the headlights are on rather than DRL, and that I thought they were good a night compared to my previous 640d GC xenon

I have adaptive xenons currently and I think they are excellent. I'm struggling to justify the cost of the new led adaptive option at around £1300 Inc vat, when you get what sounds like perfectly decent lights, with hba as Std now.

Good to hear, and frankly about time BMW!
It was a disgrace that the std halogens from 2015 were so bad, when a £10k ford fiesta has better lights.
