Dog pee

For numerous reasons - dog pee got wiped down in the car but not brought to my attention until 2 days later when and awful stale pee smell presented itself. What joy.

I lathered the affected areas as best I could with a kind of household dog pee stain and odor remover (called Skouts Honor) which is mostly natural ingredients based but I read later shouldn't be used on leather. Oops.

Looking for a carpet and leather friendly product (could be two different ones if necessary) that will deal with this and not leave any residues or weird chemical smells behind.

Cheers!

I'd just take it to a good local detail shop. There's lots of work involved in seeking out all places where the stench might hide.

A few years ago, my wife was transporting our cat to the vet after he got into it with a raccoon and lost. She thought he would be okay loose in the car. Bad idea.

He flipped out, and pooped and peed all over the back seat. She dropped the cat off at the vet, then called to say she was taking the car to my favorite detail shop.

"If I don't do it right now, you'll have to throw away your car," she said.

The shop did a great job. They said the smell might come back, but they would redo the car again if it did.

Fortunately, the smell didn't come back, and that was probably the best $125 I ever spent.

Would totally do this, but I don't know of one in LA that isn't $200+ for interior full detail and I'm pretty OCD about these things esp when paying someone to do it (then I expect perfection, and am often disappointed!!)

I know I need to take the seat out which isn't that big a deal, and I know the shop won't do it to do a proper job.

The wife jumped in the car today and she has the smell senses of a flipping Bassett hound and she said it's definitely much less now, but there is a little smell- so I can DIY this for probably $30 and an hour of my time!

Go to Home Depot and get some Zep carpet cleaner. It contains enzymes that break down organic material. used it many times over the years to get out many pet stains. The shit works miracles!

Everything I'm reading about the suggestions so far is either it leaves its own chemical odor or it's not necessarily safe for leather. Do you use this in your car?

Never used it on the leather, but if your carpets get dirty it's good. Doesnt leave a chemical smell one if you get the one i originally linked. The other variations of it can leave the chemical smell.... even so though chemical smell > stale pee.

If its the back seat, just remove it and clean/wetVac the cushion and the sound detaining fabric under the seat.
