window tinting

Here is my plan, tiniting 4 windows and rear for 3m color stable and crystalline on the front for my 335i.

total cost is about 500 with tax in Scottsdale, Phoenix. Does it sound right?

should i do crystalline on the front or not? AZ is like 110+ in the summer...

I say no tint on windshield. My personal opinion and the official recommendation of www.iwfa.com

You should pay ~$250 for your side/rear windows done in 3M CS.

For some perspective, I paid $550 for 3M 35% tint for all 7 side and rear windows and 3M clear bra for the front bumper and headlights. The front bumper is the does not include any section of the hood or quarter panels.

You can't even tell there's a clear on EB.

Thank you for the information, i prefer doing opti-coat for the car. The guy at the detail shop says i need to do the full detail before applying opti-coat.

Windshields have optical distortions as does all curved glass. Adding film to it can amplify and add to the distortions since that film needs to be heated and shrunk to fit the curves.

All film adds some level of interior reflection. Can be extra annoying on sunny days especially when you are driving in direction sun is facing.

Its illegal in most states to tint the windshield below the AS-1 line.

Windshield is designed to break a certain way if a body hits it. Adding film changes these properties. This is the main reason why IWFA recommends not to tint.

Windshield is single piece of glass cleaned most often. Odds of scratching the film is much higher. Scratched film increases optical problems.

Adding film (even Crystalline 90) will slightly reduce night visibility out of windshield.

I recommend you do your side/rear first. Drive car around for a bit before you commit to windshield. If you do windshield make sure you use Crystalline 90. Many shops like to use Crystalline 70.

M2Michael - where are you getting the tint done? I just had my car done in Scottsdale with Formula One Pinnacle all around and the price was better than what you'd be paying for an inferior product.

It sounds expensive to me. I got my windows tinted and the tint has a lifetime guarantee. I paid $125. I asked about the 3M ceramic stuff, the guy asked me a very relevant question: how important is 3M if the stuff he can install at half the price comes with a lifetime guarantee? It it gets scratched, he'll replace it. I found that to be a compelling argument If I have to go back in 5 years to get my replacement, I will. It's not like it took all day to install it.

Your circumstance may differ I have two cars, so I wasn't without transportation while he was installing my tint.

Sounds expensive.. I don't recall what film I got, but I remember it was the best on, that supposedly doesn't interfere with radio signals, approx $250, no windshield..

i just got my car tinted today for 250 CS series. I went to pit stop detail shop, and the owner took the car to their business partner to tint it. It's pretty professional there with 3m, i saw the brand new 2013 corvette is getting tinted.

I paid $450 for Llumar ceramic 15% back, 35% front and Air Blue windshield. I already have two cars with Llumar Air Blue on the windshield:

NO visible distortion. NO visibility issues. The HUD works perfectly. For the average person it's absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to tell if there's a film on the glass or not. The heat reduction in the car and on my chest/face/arms is tremendous.
