H style front lip (Sportline)

Has anyone bought one of these lips and installed them?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/131137708460...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I'd really like to attach this with all 3M tape and no bolts but I just can't tell how realistic that goal is.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I am unsure about the quality of the lip, but I would strongly urge you to use self tapping screws for the install. Tape works for trunk/roof spoiler but its not strong enough for a lip. I have heard too many horror stories of lips falling off on the freeway.

As long as you are screwing underneath the bumper, you will never see the holes so I wouldn't worry about it.

I was looking at a similar front non-M lip spoiler. Do I have to drill holes into the spoiler and underneath the body or are there exisiting holes that line up?

You will need to drill holes into the lip if there are not pre-drilled holes already and then use self taping screws to secure the lip to the bumper.

I'd really like to get a firsthand experience of someone installing this. I really want to see some better pictures than the product pictures shown on most websites

So I started to do the install of my urethane lip today. My kit (Taiwan) included both self-tapping screws and Alodined bolts/nuts/washers and there were 8 pre-drilled holes in the lip itself. It isn't obvious. There are bolt heads that stick down below the stock bumper which would interfere with the snug fit of the lip (need to remove them?) and there is a black "middle piece" (part #4 here: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...04&hg=51&fg=15 ) in the stock configuration along the bottom that I can't tell if the lip will install over/around/next to or if it needs to be removed to get a proper fit. Also for others who may be wondering, this lip is no work of art like you'd get from RW Carbon. The fit is just OK with none of that carbon fiber panache. On the other hand, this is going on a car that my wife will drive from time to time, so I consider it a "wear part" as it will no doubt get bashed into parking bollards, etc. I'll just sand out the black polyurethane and keep on keeping on. More details to follow as things develop.

so I pulled the trigger and ordered the H style front lip from eBay. What size self-tapping screws would I need to purchase to secure the lip spoiler? Do I need anything else like washers or nuts?

So the kit that came with my lip (eBay also) had 4, #8x 3/4 self tapping screws and 8 similar sized bolts, nuts and washers. Having looked underneath, I can't yet say where they would go of if I am expected to take the bumper off to drill and mount everything.

I'll mull this some more but suspect I'll let the body shop do it, sad to say.

Mine is suppose to arrive this Friday. I guess I'll take a look underneath the bumper and also head over to Home Depot to pick up some of the screws.

Keep us posted on how you end up installing it. Thanks.

Searched and got this.. looks like using an adhesive to attach the spoiler to the front bumper.

any update on installing this by a body shop? I received mine with a similar set of screws and other bolts n nuts. Not particularly pleased with the quality either but probably will cost a fortune to ship it back. I was thinking of getting an estimate of having it painted and installed or just sell it for a loss locally.

Just got it put on yesterday. No time to take a photo. Will post when I do. I'm satisfied with the look and the body shop put it on for $100.

I got a quote for $140 to prime and paint the spoiler and $60 for the install, from a body shop that came highly recommended. I was thinking of dropping the spoiler first for the paint job and stop by later for the install.

OK, here is the before and after for my front lip install. The shop said that they didn't have to take the bumper off but did have to unbolt the aerodynamic underbody parts. We decided to install it only with the hardware provided so that if it were to hit something hard, it would be more likely to break the lip than rip the whole bumper off. I'm satisfied with the look and now have a little more front down force to balance the rear spoiler effect - yes, I'm planning to take it to the track, at least a little.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks for the pics. Looks like they did a great job installing it. Very clean. The one that I received looks just like your 1st pic- the center section looking slightly warped but from your install pics, looks like everything straightens out.

Here are my install pics after painting.

Did you have it painted before putting it on the car? Is the lip solid enough so it won't bend or warp after painting it. I'd hate to paint it and it be a pain to install. Any wide gaps after installing it. Thx

I found the lip still pretty flexible even after installation. I don't know how well paint would stay affixed. I left mine in the original black plastic and enjoy the contrast with my white paint.

I ordered this exact lip today. I'm having it painted and then wrapped in clear protective film. The fitment on yours looks good. How did your paint job turn out with the lip being kinda flexible? Does it match your factory paint. How did you attach it to the bumper?

Have you got it in yet? I want to get a lip that already has the pre drilled holes.
