Could have been worse! That middle support under the bridge looked a bit menacing!

Hope you've got away with it and if you haven't repairs are low - shouldn't be high considering the low impact

I would do an alignment check just to be sure.
Other than that, I think you're ok. Be safe out there!

So sorry to see that man; glad you didn't get hurt.

I must be so ignorant. Wouldn't have thought that were even possible with winter rubber and X Drive. Proves that I just need to be smarter with my winter driving.

Have a ski trip coming up later this month, I'll be extra careful and slow.

Now you're educated on the relationship between drive train vs. traction. There's no way to tell via a video what may have happened as a result of the tap but if the car tracks straight and you have no vibrations while driving you have a good story to tell and no more.

A lot of people misunderstand the relationship between drive train and traction. Traction is provided by tires, compound, temp, etc. Drive train sends power to wheels. If one wheel has traction and power can be sent to it acceleration from that wheel will result. If there's no traction on any wheel sending power to it does nothing.

Re: Winter tires. My experience is some can handle snow better than others while some are better at slush and ice. I found the Blizzaks ws60 very good in snow and ice but found them to live a short life. Winter aside roads are mostly clear where I live so maybe that's why the tires didn't last long. My current Xice3 tires deliver about 80-90% grip of the Blizzaks but have lasted longer and have better wet grip. But with either tire the rule was on ice or snow was don't push your luck. A car feels light and easy to drive because of driver 'aids' but when all traction is lost the power of physics takes over and 3000 pounds of steel and glass out of control is pretty scary sh*t.

Did you check your rims? Something similar happened to me (hit a patch of black ice) and a piece of my rim broke off. In the end, I had to realign the car since it was pulling to one side. Check your alignment, but it doesn't sound that bad from the video. Good luck.

Yeah, scratch my rim. Will do a alignment check tmr. Do i have to do it at dealership? I heard if the car is with AFS, then some oem tool is required. Not sure if i have it, i do have variable steering and no active cruise control

The bump had nothing to do with xDrive...the curb position was hidden by snow and he misjudged his path. I did this coming out of a very busy plaza in dry weather with no snow...bumped the rear passenger side wheel over a bit of the curb. The curb rash was repaired with CNC lathe refacing and clear coating and the wheel re-balanced. No need for alignment as the blow was not that heavy.

Yes i know man. Thanks for remembering me. I guess that embolden me having too much faith in xdrive. Should drive more carefully like i did back when i had my rwd e90. I think rwd some time is safer than xdrive because the driver knows it and will be careful with the car . Instead the awd drivers may be careless because they are overconfident. Yeah like me. Lesson learned.

No it doesn't have to be done at a dealership. But make sure you do your research...a proper wheel alignment must come with a full detailed report for each wheel.

Going a little too fast with a road that still had snow on it, not a good idea. Glad to see only minimal damage for you.

If there's a coating of ice under that snow, you can have whatever set up you want, you are still at the mercy of Mother Nature. You will be better off with winter tires, but....

I would balance the wheels as well, just in case a rim was damaged
