Not any good ones, I'll have to go out to take some pictures. Any I take in the garage is too dark so you can't even seen the color if I have the whole car in frame.

Finally got around to changing my spark plugs. Ran almost 20k miles on NGKs, back to OE Bosch. Idk if it's all in my head, but I swear the car feels smoother, both at idle and under load.

I did it the right way by taking off the strut brace. Well, ALMOST the right way...I didn't have replacement bolts so I reused the old ones. They still torqued to spec, so I suspect it'll be alright, at least for the time being.

Strangely, my coil packs on cylinders 3 & 5 were yellowed, noticeably more so than the others. Not sure what that's all about. Also, plugs on 5 & 6 unscrewed a bit more easily, leading me to believe that I wasn't able to torque them properly the last time I did it since I tried working around the strut brace that time using wobble extensions and universal joints.

Start to finish, took me about an hour or so. Maybe a little more to put all the pieces back together.

Flashed - stage 2 bm3 today

Car drives like I had originally hoped it would now.

It's plenty tame in comfort and plenty fast in sport/sport+ now.

Probably time to get colder spark plugs, I know it's not mandatory but any input is appreciated.

Also - anyone know if I should change the oil more often? Last oil change was in Nov. Probably only 4k miles ago. But I'm pretty ocd about that.

Picked up some fun things to do after my trip to Japan.

M-Performance rear diffuser and Bavsound Stage 1 with extra tweeters for the rear. So maybe stage 1.5?!

i fried my car

Okay so I'm running a bootmod3 stage 2 tune and i was getting some misfires, so I ordered ignition kid from fcp euro to replace plugs and coils as that would be the first idea to fix. Ran car before working on it , no codes or atleast significant ones. After working on it and finishing up i went to start it up and nothing, it just cranked but never kicked over and started. Ran codes and i got a multitude of short circuit codes. Only thing that i can even think of is when i was working on it my ratchet touched a metal piece it couldve been a terminal im not sure tbh but it sparked up for a second. Really hope i didnt fry my car/dme and i just didnt install the plugs correctly or something. Im clueless

I think a mechanic would know best and you may have fried the DME. You could always get a second opinion somewhere else though. Question though, did you not disconnect the battery before working on the plugs and coils?

colder ignition plugs are usually not necessart, but better if you put them in.

newer synthetic oils that comes from BMW can last up to more than 7k miles

I'm running NGK 97506 (1-step colder than OEM) gapped to 0.022"... car runs smoother than when I had the used up OEM plugs. Is it because of the different spark plug or just because the old plugs have been replaced with new ones... who knows, but the car drives well now.

I change my oil every 6-7k miles... it's inexpensive enough that it's worth the added piece of mind. Most of the issues I hear about with these engines are oil related... so make sure your engine is (1) warm and (2) clean before giving it the beans. The harder you drive your car, the more contaminants get into your oil... I read the thread where four(?) BMW engines blew in Chicago during a winter storm recently... some of them had frozen oil in their oil pans... no thanks to that.

Thanks for the input - new plugs it is. I just hit 40k miles but I've been told too many times now colder is ideal. And I for sure change oil right at 6k miles maybe less.

---

Today I used some new products - sonax brilliant shine and sonax polymer sealant. I think I like the new angelwax spray I bought but the sealant worked well on my 6 yr old car.
